  1. Terve Antti,

I would recommend you build Constellation as per AL plans and instructions.
Trying to go aside the provided information could/would just give you headaches.

On a side note, I built the Harvey from AL, but frustration led to a Viking funeral. I wasn't too happy with the plans and instructions.
I saved remaining material for other projects.

Good luck with your build, I am looking forward seeing your build log.

    Onnea mallin rakentamiseen.
Siitä huolimatta on tyydyttävää työskennellä käsilläsi.

I am all done with the different blocks and am fully stocked.  So I am now going back and trying to make the tiny stuff that a lot of folks need.   These are tricky and to make make them correctly proportioned and looking real even tougher.

Anyway these are true 2mm single blocks.   I measured my old wooden 2mm blocks and they were probably 2.2mm long.   The stuff from Coastline and Dry-duck are even larger.   These should be available really soon. Probably today.   Doubles and triples to follow.  Now can I make them even smaller?  I really dont know.  But I am willing to try for those who like to build the small models.  Take out a peny and look at how big the date is.  That is how small these blocks are.  The holes are clear and the details crisp.  Now how do you strop and rig them.  Thats up to you small scale model builders to figure out.  Just use the correct scale rope.  Tiny stuff.  Fly tie stuff for sure.

How small do we really need them? I am really surprised by the outcome of resin printing.

I know resin printing can do really nice detailing. But this is amazing.

I believe the the vertical rollers help guide and move the anchor chain/cable or the messenger cable (not sure which at this point) when they are activated. They also provide (as you stated) a buffer from them rubbing on the vertical supports and columns.

I originally purchased the RP Toolz punch to create the thousands of pseudo boltheads you see on the bulwarks. The method the practicum used, plastic rivets heads, was too labor intensive and I felt the scale was too large. With this punch set, I could punch out 0.6mm - 2.0 mm diameter hemispheric pieces out of the brass plate. In both cases I used the 0.6mm punch. First, to create the pseudo bolthead and then here, to create the bracket holes. The set is not cheap. about $115. I don't remember what I paid for it when I got it some 5 years ago.

    Current price is 125 dollars....

Otherwise here is an option when it comes to model punch tools.

  4. John, I just finished reading your build log and you have done really good recovery of the build.
I understand the feeling of having a model or two just waiting to be continued, looking good and I like your work set up with the windows.

Here is one suggestion regarding the stand and the brass rod.

I did use brass rod and brass tube for my longboat.
The rod was inserted in drilled holes in the boat and the tube on the stand.
Take a look at my finished boat in the gallery below.

    All the best to you.

    Update

I have now ordered the Vanguard "Sherbourne" along with some starter tools. Now im going spend some time getting the rest of the starter tools and probably will post a buildlog sometime in the near future once I got my workspace ready.  I hopefully will learn alot and keep my patience while overcoming any future struggles.

    Good choice!

  6. Tjenare Stuka och välkommen till Model Ship World.

Hi Stuka and welcome to Model Ship World.

I would suggest Sherbourne from Vanguard for two reason, good customer service but also you can download the manual prior buying the kit.
This way you will have some pre-knowledge of what you are getting into.
The kits of Mr. Watton are at very high quality.

Polaris is at a good starting level as well. And does have instructional videos on their website.

If I were in your shoes I would go for Sherbourne.

    However that is my opinion.

Good luck with your choice because they are both good.
