Nirvana reacted to Twokidsnosleep in The Black Pearl by Twokidsnosleep (Scott) - Zvezda - 1/72 scale - PLASTIC
Using the turned balusters and making new hand rails. Thin brass rod as guides and support

The kit staircase is next.
The staircase balusters are very skinny and inaccurate. There are not enough stair treads in the steps by half. The finale turn is plain.
The upper railing has nicer baluster supports 🤔maybe I could copy those
My 3d printer was awaiting a part so I made some balusters out of resins and styrene on my makeshift battery Dremel
this will look better
so I hand turned a whole bunch in the different materials

off into the deep end for the stairs-case and the bulkhead modifications.
I did some 3 d printing of some fair maidens to make the side support columns
here are the windows with white glue glass and the supports

Okay, so this may be your first ship model, but man, you have painted before!
That Cap'n looks extraordinary.
Keep it up!

Let’s move along so we can catch up to where I am
Covid came and I got bored and purchased a 3D printer. One of the files I got was an excellent Capt Jack Sparrow
So I printed him out and painted using acrylics and oils. I plan on using him displayed with the completed Pearl.

Another Black Pearl build thrown into the ring🙄
I know there are quite a few and I have read the posts I could find. I stand on the shoulder of giants as the saying goes as I get the benefit of seeing others make these kits. This is my first ship build and I am a newby here so I appreciate any help and direction. Apologies if my ship anatomy is incorrect.
I have started the kit pre Covid and then stopped.
so here we go

You have to remember that those who are on this site have a critical eye. The general public wouldn't look at this model the same way. Put it up on Ebay and see where things go.

I think this is much smaller than I expected it to be.
Overall Length 11 3/4 “.
A quick start. It likely won’t progress until I finish the Muscongus Bay Lobster Smack.

Nirvana reacted to modeller_masa in I made a ship stand.
I upgraded the Norwegian Pram kit's stand to a cherry wood stand and acrylic pillar.
I cut cherry wood sheets using a laser cutter, and glued them together. I slightly sanded the edges.
It is a cheap and nice result, but the sanding was a bit frustrating. I'll try 3D CNC next time.

Thanks so much, Tom, Kurt, and David!!
I finished up with the windows! A very tedious task... but I did become quicker in assembling them towards the end.
I tested the micro crystal clear solution for the windows but I wasn't too big of a fan of the frosted window look. So I opted to use the acetate instead. I placed each window frame on the sheet, ran a #11 blade on the outside edges of the frame, lightly marking the acetate. Then I used a metal ruler as a guide to run the blade multiple times until it went through. Finally, I used the micro clear solution as a glue for the frames on the acetate. Here are some photos with the windows+frame dry-fitted in the openings:

I have a similar unit putting out 1500 watts. And yes it will melt plastic, char wood if not being careful. Make metal extremely hot to touch afterwards after heating, learned by lesson!

I totally agree regarding sail making.
The provided material for sail in kits in general are not good at all.

Chuck, that is just amazing.
Crisp and clean. Beautiful!

I've been CADing several early 17th century British cannons for a project, and I just finished printing out the first test set of the 6 and 9 pounders (long and short barrel) in 1/24th scale. It took almost 24 hours at 35um layer heights, but the files checked out! Presently the 18 and 24 pounders are printing. I will have to reprint the first set, as I did not have the supports all correctly set up, but the cannons printed OK, so the original STL files are good. I just need to add a few more supports for the final printed set. These prints are for my use, to go on display along with my 1/24th Model Expo Naval Cannon displays. The barrels and cypher emblem came out well, but the trunions are warped. I also have to figure a way to better clean the bore and touch hole out as some resin was still in them, and caused blemishes when I cured them. That is the great thing about resin printers, I can just make another set.
The lighting is poor on the picture, as I had to go with ambient lighting. The flash washed out all the detailing, at such a close distance. The longest cannon is a little less than 5" long, in this scale.

Thank you so much for the kind words and the 'likes'😄
I have been slowly working through the window frames. I finished the portside frames.
For the angles windows, I used the kit supplied ones as a guide. Here, I glued the two outer strips and used the kit frames to get the right angle by letting the glue set as the strips rest on the edges of the kit piece.. After letting the glue set and doing the same on the opposite corner, the 2 'L' shaped pieces were then glued together, followed by all the internal strips:
Here are a few photos of how it looks on the ship (only dry-fitted for now):
I got to say, all this is really really fiddly work. Getting the notches in the correct spots on each strip is very tricky. Had to discard twice as many as those that made the final round!
