Nirvana got a reaction from Captain Poison in Dremel 8050 micro
Olivier,
I bought a 8050 long time ago, found it at Walmart at a heck of a deal, pricetag was misprinted and it rang up at 50 dollars.
So far mine has been running without any problem nor overheating.
Running time has varied depending on speed but I would say I am getting about 8 hours before I need to charge it.
At the time when this model came out on the market, there were a recall of some serial numbers because they overheated and could catch fire.
Today I don't think there is any issues at all.

Nirvana got a reaction from Duanelaker in Bluenose by Nirvana - Model Shipways - Scale 1:64
Attacking the fife-rail, I want to be able to dry mount as much as possible before, this to reduce any misses that may occur while assembling.
The brittania metal was adjusted to get a less "meaty" figure. The other legs will be thinned as well.

Thank you for the compliment! Bluenose is a great lady to build.
Another thing to keep in mind when it comes to the fife rail, there will be a very tight fit between the legs and the mastcoat part.
I may reduce the outer diameter a little to be able to slide it in afterwards.

Once the jib and foresail halliards were done all I really had to do was rig the flag halliard. This will complete the rigging.....once I add the rope coils to all belaying points.
The flag halliard (.018 light brown) Is run through the simulated sheave on the starboard side of the ball truck on top of the mast. Both ends run down to the deadeyes where they are belayed. One to each deadeye. Then they are finished up with some rope coils so the belaying looks credible.
I adjusted the tension on all lines and then finished every belaying point off with a nice neat rope coil. The flag was made in teh usual way and you will get one with the rigging package. This pretty much finishes off the model. Here are some photos. The only thing I have left to do is make a few oars. I will get to that soon. But the model is pretty much done.
The grapnel was finished off with some .025 rope as well.
Let me know if you have any questions. I will now try and catch up with the instructions so you guys can get this far too!!!

Nirvana got a reaction from Duanelaker in Bluenose by Nirvana - Model Shipways - Scale 1:64
Well the main cap rail is now installed.
As I mentioned before, the stern became a little to "fat", so some adjustments were needed. But I think I have covered the main gap fairly well.
She got 3mm wider in total, once painted I think it will be hard to tell.
With little more white and it will be hard to tell.

Had my Sunday all to myself, some fiddling and trimming and now the main rail is in place.
Really pleased with the result.
All the parts fit to a majority, some filling was necessary. This auto-putty is a pleasure to work with.
But takes some extra paint cover to the connection areas.

Congrats Grandpa. What a great Christmas gift!
I am also waiting for my first grand child, my son is still young (26) but not me.
Beautiful progress of your ship.

Small update. Decided to add a bit of color (technically, black = absence of color -- oh, well). Gave the hull a final sanding and going over with fine steel wool. Added the rear deck.

Nirvana got a reaction from mtaylor in Sail design for 18th-century longboat?
I am very confident that the long boat was an excellent sailing boat, has the right shape and the rigging is right in my opinion.
It was probably not as efficient in tacking as a modern sailing boat, but still able head towards wind.
