  1. Beautiful work! Still pearwood?

    Janos

    Welcome Janos.
Thank you for your appreciation. These figures hippocampi I made to order. 2 units were sold, and one I made for myself. 2 figures from pears and 1 made from apple-tree. Wood has been chosen by the customer. In Russia, it is very often used in the construction of a pear, unlike Europe.  The figure is standing on the model, therefore it is the same color order.
I remember that you advised me to cut it out of boxwood. Now I have small stick of the tree. When I will be able to make the thread of these stick. I've already tried. I will say that the thrill of boxwood are very different from the other tree. For him to get used to. As I understand you are working with thread drilling machine. I have so far not very successful this way, I'm used to cutters and knives. I hope that I will learn new methods of work for me.
  2. Your work is outstanding by all means. I wish to Thank you for sharing your excellent work with us. If you have more pictures of your work could you please post them for all to see.

    Welcome VaskoVolf
I did not understand a bit of your request. You mean work on a thread? Or building my model ship? If the question of the carving, then I'm doing this recently. And all my work I show here. If there are more, then be sure to show you. I try to take pictures during the work, myself so interesting. And I'm showing.
If you mean the construction of the model, I believe that in my work  is nothing new. I bought a set of Chinese HMS Druid. Now I try to make this a normal Admiralty model,  and learn naval engineer. I have exhibited their work at the Russian site, here did not spread, because here are many such works. Hard for me to write in English, and technical issues to me hard to understand English. If you want, I can show a link to my topic with the construction.
  3. Incredibly beautiful. I hope some day I can achieve something like this. I probably should start practicing now and continue at least 10 years....

    Remco

    Thank you, Remco.
Such an evaluation of such a master is expensive. I am sure that you thread much better. In this there are no secrets,  need a little patience. That's all. I have been carving recently. About six months. All my work I show here. Gradually learning new things. This is very interesting!
By the way, I and take you, too, am a student, thank you for your work.
  4. Hi Alexander

This is the meaning of communication. We all look at each other's work, learn and be inspired for their feats. And it's great. Good luck to you, yamsterman
    Cheers!!!

    Regards....mick

Hi Mick. Thank you for rating.
Nothing secret I do not, all phases of work are the same as I have shown in previous studies.
I find it hard to write anything that I would like to mention.
Decided to give a link to your blog, where there is more information and photos on this work. There's a lot of pictures and explanations. Of course, all in Russian, so not everything will be clear, but you can try to do the translation.
If I broke the rules of the forum, I beg forgiveness for it and then let the moderators to remove these links.

Here how was working on this figure:

and here the description of the competition and continued in St. Petersburg:

At this year's competition came carver Ivan Trtan. I am very glad I was able to see his work and meet him. He is a very good master.

If you do not know who I'm talking about, here's his website where you can see his work:
  6. Hello I've been here for a long time did not appear. I decided to show you one of my work. This figure of an angel on the French Le Ambitieux. I love the model of this ship, which makes an Italian master. It was in his review and saw this figure of the angel. It wanted to try to do it yourself. And that's what happened. I did it for fun, it's not an order.

  7. Alex

This is the problem when a material is cherry or similar - it breaks easily in small cross sectional areas. European Boxwood would cope with this with no problem, although the South American Boxwood (Costello) would probably brake the same way. Of course you can't go for the same material every time because of the necessary colour contrast, so you have to deal with the consequences.

I sometimes manage to repair the breakage with a small wooden dowel and carpenter glue, but even with the most careful repair would leave a small break line visible (as I have now on the forearm of my top-left-man's hand on the Britannia carving  ). If this is not acceptable, there is no other way just to start again. I went too far with the figure, so I just left it - and it is visible  :o

Your scroll carving is as excellent as the in-the-round rooster!

    Janos

Thank you very much for your advice , Janos .
With boxwood I never worked . I even did not keep his hands before. We have this tree is not often seen . Belgorod city and a small wood for carving here is not for sale . Yesterday I received a parcel from a friend in Moscow. He gave me a gift . Little wood for carving . And there were two bars of boxwood . They are not large, only for small figurines . But I am very happy that I met with this tree . One day I 'll cut something out of it .

Thanks for the advice about repairs. I, too, there are moments when I decide what can be repaired . For example with a lion and was sent when a mistake on the board .At this time, not repair for several reasons.
1  very thin dimensions , and still had to cut a lot ahead. Therefore, the place of breakage is likely again be broken. I also realized that can easily go wrong , and in other places.
2 -  You have probably noticed that the first attempt I made with butter. As I have already used . Oil helps with thread , I have already written . But now it spoils the contrary , because the details are not oiled glue well . If you look at the pictures with thread on one half , you'll notice that this time I did not use oil. Covered only at the end where the two halves are glued together, and processed.
Now for me to have the experience and that different situations need different approach to work .
  8. As promised a sequel to the last few threads. This openwork inset

Here was the difficulty. Part thickness only 2.8 mm, and the thread must be on both sides. Therefore, in areas of thinning turned very small thickness. And item several times I broke during operation.

I had to find a way out of the problem. Did so: the item consists of two halves. They became even thinner, but now they can be glued drops of glue on the bar and do as a bas-relief carving. And then glue it all together.
    Easy! Maybe someone is handy.

  9. Fabulous to see the work in progress pictures B) I was aware that you produce carvings to order for various master modelers, but it was not my place to say anything ;) I can see a lot of sense in that specialist tasks are given to certain individuals. With following the shipmodels forum I realise that several modelers have certain specialties and offer their services to other modelers.

    Kind Regards

Once again, I apologize in advance if poorly understood the meaning of your words. I do not try to do some secrets contrary openly show and what happened and how it was done . I also learned a lot through different forums on ship modeling . And I very grateful masters who opened their secrets and technology. I, too, try to do the same.
From the photos immovably that thread have something complex or not secret . Simple tools . Yes , I use the machines in the first stage , which I have. But even without them , too, can do . They are not the main thing in the thread ! And any questions I will answer honestly and also show all the techniques that I use. Already talked about some of the tricks that help me in the work , how you can fix your mistakes . I will reveal a little secret: in this order rooster figure was not the only thing I did . There was another thread . On it I will talk about later . There also were problems , and small openings . Oh , I also tell them . Therefore , if anyone have a desire to try it for yourself , I 'm just glad this . This is very interesting !
When I'm doing with my model , I try to learn to different technologies . I can not everything. I still have to learn how to weave ropes for rigging. I have not tried to do a good casting. Always want to learn to do yourself.
But if someone I can be useful , I am ready to make a thread for others. I enjoy watching and thread
