Hi folks   I have probably shown this before - but this is the stage I am building her from  - 1944  D Day   off the French coast.

Hello everyone,  I had a look at the the ole girl yesterday  and thought I really should summon up the courage to have another go on her, my hands are no worse so perhaps I will be ok,  need to get some more supplies though first as I have no super glue but might be tempted to get gorila glue if I can get it from ebay, and my Revell poly cement (the bottles with the fine needle)  well the needles have jammed up in both of them and I do not have a fine enough wire etc to clean through the needles.

I will try to get some thing sorted though.

OC I use a lighter to declog the revel glue, if yours has the metal nozzle you can try it. You need to take care with the flame though

Hello OC, I'm still plowing through your build log and now you may be abandoning this magnificent ship?  Sure hope you have second thoughts and complete her. That last photo you showed where HMS Warspite is delivering a few shells at the Normandy Beach at the invasion, reminds me of Hr. Ms. Java's sister ship Hr. Ms. Sumatra. They used the "Sumatra" as a breakwater for the invasion, an honorable end for that nobel girl.

I'l continue looking at your progress though, it's very inspiring to me.

 

Hope your hands are not getting worse so you can continue with your model till she's finished.  My wife Gwen also has similar hand problems and will get a second operation next week. Two fingers keep locking up on her that's very painful.

Hi pat,  Thank you for looking through my build,  im sorry to hear about your wifes hand condition, mine comes and goes but I was suffering holding the small parts,  but I will try to carry on with the build.

if you tire of watching you glue tube,  looking like a tiki torch,  just use a drill bit of the same diameter.   I'm a no fuss guy at times......in those times I just shove a pin in the hole,  and let's go!

Im returning soon  - so dont go away,  im just finishing off my sub build, then I will return here as I have restored my mojo for my plastic builds, and my hand is not playing me up to bad.

 

So recharge your pop corn and drinks (whatever your poison may be)  and please make a  slow return back to your seats.

I cured my stuck glue tube with some heat  - you know those attraction car displays with the flame thrower exhausts..........   only kidding, I used a gas blow tourch.

I realy used a lighter to heat up the end of the tube.

So!    it continues  -  my object was and is  to work from the stern moving piece by piece to the bow,   so my first return to her was to work on the two aa gun tubs nearest the rear bulwarks where the nameplates are.

Same build process with these resin pieces - cleaned up then two pe ammo boxes where bent to shape then glued in place with ca glue, then a door was fitted to each.

 

So here is the first pic of my return.

Yep,   bit by bit  taking my time,   I  guess it will take the next 30 - 40 years to finish  (I dont like rushing)

OC, you may want to consider working from the center-line of the ship out to the bulwarks. The superstructure looks like a mountain, so you may want to work from the middle out.

Thanks ken,   thats kind of my thinking also  - working from stern to bow but also working from the center outwards, but as we do  aslo working on the sub assemblies  off the ship to save any damage from working over delicate parts,  the masts will be a later instalation as I will hope to build these from brass rod.

Thanks denis,   I decided to give her another bash as my hand condition - Dupuytren's Disease   is not too bad at the moment, and my sub caused me no problems at all.

 

Take another seat there are plenty left (they un filled due to lack of interest)  hoping this time  with a new vision and mojo, should be a better adventure.

Thank you kevin,   she was my favourite ship of ww2   and what an amazing service she had  only ending in cornwall  when she refused to be sent to the scrappers and dug herself in on the rocks.
