Timothy Wood Posted March 4, 2014 Author #275 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) The first part I glued to the chart house was the Dead Light, no problem with this even though they are extremely small and a real very to work with. My next step was to assemble the side window frames. I was successful attaching the starboard window at the correct height, the port window set up to quick and it was attached too low on the chart house. The same error happened while attaching the forward chart house windows. As you can see the port window is out of line and needs to be reattached. popeye the sailor Posted March 4, 2014 #276 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) so, you need to remove that one as well. would it help you, {repaint and make your marks} if you were to make a jig for the height that the windows should be at. just a small piece of flat stock cut to the height that the frame should be. make the marks for the centering and with the structure flat on the table, lay the jig against the front of it. locate the part using the centering marks and the jig. there is also slow setting CA out there on the market. what were you going to put in the frames? darkened cello? you could also use the same jig on all the windows, so they will all be at the same height. For the color for the inside of the frames, I believe you hit the nail on the head. Darkened cello sounds like a good choice! I've never worked with photo etched brass, but think it must be difficult to work with, it being so thin and fragile (appearing). You've clearly got a good technique going with it. I did manage to get most of the 20mm complete, still have to attach the shoulder rest to the main unit. Completed building the helmsman's enclosure and searchlight platform, (It still needs smoothing with sandpaper before the final coat of primer). Constructed the machine gun mounts, (They still need some cleanup work and a coat of primer).
