Scratch building stern lights

Recommended Posts

My POF Armed Virginia sloop came with plastic lights for the stern.  I want to remake them in 1/32 scale out of holly.  Is anyone aware of a good practicum to help do this, or a good build log that explains a good technique.  Any help appreciated.

If you want a book, The Fully Framed Model, Volume II contains one method of doing this (among many other techniques). See the SeaWatchBooks web site.

Doc, check out the document by David Antscherl on our website "Tips" page, bottom.

While I can't provide a PE sheet at that scale it does explain the basics of lantern construction.

Cutting slots that small with the saw may be tough as the blade widths are probably too much.  Chisel or other sharp hand blade may be better.

I think Thurston sells some slitting blades that might be thin enough.
