You mean you don't have it built yet!

I'm going to take my favorite place in the rafters along with the bats so I can keep a watch on how you do it! REMEMBER....... YOU ARE BEING WATCHED!:D^_^

Looking forward to this one.

Looks like you got a lot of time in today Jim.

Are you pretty much following the instructions or just doing what seems sensible?

I am following the instructions so far. I have found one hiccup. You have to remove a chunk of the main upper support from the slot B9 goes in as it blocks the entire slot, but that is why we have Dremels. This is a nice little kit BUT you will learn ZERO skills that you don’t already have. Everything is cut so precise and fits so snug it goes really fast. I stop to let the glue set up otherwise I would be planking this puppy already. The figuring out what exactly they mean in the English translation can be frustrating. When I was mounting C9 they mentioned setting in a beam as in figure such and such. A beam means one thing to me a square chunk of wood, to them I finally figured out it was the upper support. I went through the box, examined each figure, tried to figure out where this elusive beam would go. Took a half an hour to settle on the upper support.

Well I suppose they had to make something challenging! Might as well be the language issues. I can never understand why foreign manufactures can't hire native language people who speak THEIR language as a second language to write instructions instead of the other way around! AL gave it up all together, all I would have if I was actually building the Independence from the kit would be pictures and a list of woods!

Don't go too fast. I can't interpret pictures that fast!:D

Weekly update

Finished framing the hull Alignment of the bulkheads is accomplished by attaching E-1 to the top and then aligning the bulkheads to the gunport. E-1  rests on cutouts and stepson the bulkhead

The decks and forward timbers are added next. During this operation you assemble a jig ( although it is not called this) to aid in lining up the forward timbers. It is called a conductor in the plans. The instructions have you remove it, wrap it in cellophane and reinstall after your timbers are aligned. I did this but really see zero reason. After the glue drys the forward timbers are really sturdy. Oh and they NEVER tell you to remove it.

Next we start planking by attaching the first four upper planks and the Garboard plank. All planks are preshaped and numbered. The cellophane wrapped jig is really just a PITA during this operation. After attaching E-1 I removed it.

Great build Jim,

The more I see these Master Korabel kits, the more they interest me.

Maybe just enough interest to pick one up.

Model Expo seems to have foreign kits on sale a lot lately.

Got the cannons built and installed, built and installed one of Chuck's helm wheels (it is a teeny bit large but it looks miles better than WM that came with kit), built and installed grates (Chuck's), got the binnacle built and installed (Eugene you might want to correct directions and add binnacle location). Worked on head work.

Hi Jim.

I like your work. Thanks for sharing it with us. Great job....and very speedy.

I have started this kit too, and I think its fantastic.

However, I cannot find any paintings, plans etc of the original ship Phoenix.

Have you been able to find anything?

I am slightly suspicious that the kit is not actually based on the original ship, but is a design adapted from other ships of the same period. A little like MK have done for their new Avos kit.

I dont care that much....but I might build the kit slightly differently if I know its not actually a proper representation if the original Phoenix.

Value your thoughts.

Tim.

Lou it is set up for Anti-Submarine Warfare. Very effective, not one submarine attack during her entire career.

Tim I have found very little history. There was a little splurge in Wikipedia. MK never gives any color scheme on any of their models so I just do what I think the Ship may have looked like.

I had not considered that! Obviously a design well ahead of her time. :D
