Keith, they just pulled a Cangarda out of the shed. It is still covered up.  When they get some stairs and open her up, I’ll try to get some pictures inside.

Rick, thank you for the photos -  I see Keith B got in quick with the good advice. I have been doing a lot of internet trawling but as I explained some time back I have little pictorial information on the deck fittings and in particular nothing on the masts and rigging details. So any help will be most welcome. It looks like it was a beautiful day for her roll out.

P.S. that’s certainly the best detail I have seen of the bow decoration and of the stabilisers, very useful thank you.

Is that a seam running the length of the hull below the portholes? I hadn’t noticed that before!

I am already a bit daunted about how I am going to model the bow decoration. 😬

Thanks Rick

It is amazing the bits of detail that can be picked up from your photos. The one of the rudder shows a lifting eye on the hull above the prop, presumably for attaching the prop hoist. Also good detail of the anode on the rudder and having seen this it makes sense of the attachments on the keel. I also see the scroll work at he bow isn't a continuous carving but has a definite joint towards the forward end.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

I really must start a build log and copy all the Cangarda preparatory chats into it. I'm with my sons and family at the moment (doing various maintenance jobs) so it will be later in the week for starting the log.

Keith, just heard from Front Street Shipyard’s  president, unfortunately they don’t want people on board as they are selling Cangard.  J B said he would reach out to the executor of the estate and try to get permission to go aboard.
He also told me that there are pictures of Cangarda on a brokerage website but he wasn’t sure which one.  You can probably find it online.

If I can get aboard, I’ll let you know.

Regards, Rick

Fantastic Rick, you are being tremendously helpful,  l think I am going to have to dedicate this build to you. Such wonderful people at MSW.
So much detail to see in the hull photographs it supports me in my decision to go for a very large scale.

So that is one eye done. It turns out that the world is incredibly blue and bright. I have spent the last few hours turning the contrast and brightness down on all the TV, computer and phone screens. If I look through only my old eye all the blues have a distinctly yellow appearance a cross between colour and sepia tone photographs, while my new eye delivers such strong colour contrast its almost like a laser beam bing fired into my retina. Closing and opening each eye in turn produces incredibly different images. The focus isn't all that precise at the moment but I am told this will come over the next couple of days. So far so good.

P.S i haven't looked in the mirror yet or studied the wife. The dog however is looking very cute.

Hope you don't need to repaint your models now - we were quite happy with the colour schemes of the woods etc. ;)

BTW, Gratulations to the successful surgery! I gather it is like getting new glasses: the brain has to readjust the images to the perceived realities.

Right there with you Keith. I had cataract surgery on both eyes back in September. They replaced the lenses in both eyes and the world has never been so clear. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was nine and contacts the last 40 years, and I am amazed at the clarity the surgery has given me.

John - yes I am keen to move on - I may however have a go at the prop first - as a reward for getting through the drawing and colouring in marathon.

Wefalck - Thank you for the link - I have done a lot of internet trawling but I hadn't come across this particular build. The photos will be very helpful and any plan information would be most welcome if you could enquire on my behalf. Thank you for your help.

Mark - I spent a long time wondering about this when I was building Altair. Here is by best shot at the answer:

The worst case is the obstruction caused by the (fixed) stays that brace the fore and main masts.

fullsizeoutput_b7c.thumb.jpeg.6012560645af77047b510d537c386e55.jpeg

fullsizeoutput_c25.thumb.jpeg.945e0c7059ae77df9de0ead4363fafc9.jpeg

Clearly the topsails have to be rigged on one tack and they are unobstructed by the rigging on the tack they are hoisted on.

fullsizeoutput_b30.thumb.jpeg.195052e67010f67a053671f6d1a218ec.jpeg

When going about, one option is to take them down and re rig them.

fullsizeoutput_1006.thumb.jpeg.dae629bb160732ad8d9de22ec2208dd7.jpeg

I think only the most dedicated of crews would do this - and then not often.

Most crews seem to ignore the problem and just accept the loss of efficiency by letting  the sails lie on the rigging lines.

fullsizeoutput_ad8.thumb.jpeg.e410139ea7ca3176b83af11e2ef0f1ef.jpeg

I have only ever sailed sloops so I'm not an expert and would welcome any other views.
