Gidday David and another warm welcome from the Land Downunder.

Do you have a model in mind or a preference for period or class of ship?

It is always worthwhile looking at the myriad build logs on this site for inspiration.

You will find a wealth of knowledge and a lot of encouragement here.

I wish you all the best in your endeavours.

Mark.

Welcome! You're never too old to ship model. I'm 80 and still love it. You're going to love this website. The help you get here is worth a fortune if you had to pay for it.

Good luck

Hi there, just joined but been building my Mamoli HMAV (HMS) Bounty since Christmas 1998, don’t want to rush things.

Job changes, house moves and now retirement all played a part in building this super model. Here’s a photo taken yesterday am about to start the rigging. Instructions in Italian doesn’t help.

Thank you all for your warm welcome!  My first ship of choice is the AL Viking. I have just begun to smooth out the hull and stern. For my fellow Brit's I first became interested in ships when I lived in Appledore , North Devon. Our flat was across the street from the shipyard where the replica of the Golden Hind was being built.

Cheers

Welcome aboard David.

Have you started a build log yet? That is the easiest way to get help and the best way to help others who might come behind you. By the way I pretty much started at 60 so it is really never too late.

Best of luck to you

I'm a BIG fan of Model Shipways because they have graded kits but will also send you parts if you goof up. Keep all of your documentation so you can request parts. They are a friendly, more family oriented business. Buy tools as you need them. Sometimes it pays to do the same kit twice to rehearse your skills. Things get too intense, walk away for a day.
