Fiddling with the wheel house and grating...seems way out of scale but I’m going to go with it, I’ve thinned it down as I can’t imagine it being a foot thick

I’ve decided to order different grating as the one that came with the kit is way off.  I’ve also finished the wheel house beside paint and started the companionway.

im wondering if I should remove the decking where the companion way goes or if I can set it on top.  I used the grooved deck material for the companion way roof.

So my smaller grating came and I thinks it’s way better then the kit provided grating.

I still need to do the skylight, and then it will be time to approach the coppering of the hull.

I decided to use the solid wood for the skylight and just do trim on the outside.  I need to decide how to protect the “glass”

Following your build with interest. Since the Admiral passed away 5 years ago it does get lonely but it is nice to have a hobby room and my dog doesn't seem to mind the dust or mess. Certainly not a substitute for my wife but I try to find a bit of happiness where I can.

I thank you for following my build.  I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you build your beautifully built picket boat.  What are you building now?

Decided to do some painting and staining.  I also have work on the skylight.  So far I’m pleased.

I stained the deck.  Over all I like it.

Painted the various cabins and wheel house.

Yes, your grating is leagues better than the kit supplied one. What stain did you use for the deck? I really like it!

Golden Oak I believe, fruit wood is also a nice stain (it’s hard not to get too much of a brown when you want a yellow)

I have finally reached a milestone.  It took a surgery that kept me out of work for week to finally get me motivated but it is now complete.  Wow, I hated it and loved it at the same time.

Hi David,

That is not a very big model, or else your remote control is enormous... Well done this far!

Happy modelling!

I hope you are mending quickly! The ship looks wonderful!

Yes, i had a hole in my eardrum so the surgery was not too terrible, i was actually surprised how it really did effect me for the last few weeks!    Thank you for the compliments, currently i have ordered more basswood so i can attempt my cap rail...i think i've tried 3 times already and not been pleased.  I've also drilled for my main masts and my angle is close, but the dowels are super warped!  Not sure how to fix that so i ordered a few new ones.

Ha!  The remote is 1:1 scale, normal size, the boat is 1:98 scale so it is not very big.

I have attached the cap rail (after 4 attempts that did not look good enough, even for my standards), as well as the cleats and eye bolts below.  I went with some wooden cleats I had purchased from model Shipways last year instead of the metal ones supplied that were too big.

I don't know what the three previous attempts looked like, but the last looks up to it!

Well done!
