Hello, I'm new here. I've been searching this website getting ideas on what ship to get with help from the build logs and finished photos. Thanks for sharing!

I ended up ordering the Buccaneer from OcCre and I'm thinking about starting a build log here once it begins. I was considering the La Candelaria since I liked the look of it, but was hesitant to spend too much. Also the terror seemed like a nice kit to build especially at the price point, but I wanted to get an older looking ship, something that feels like an old Caribbean sorta ship. However on the other hand, the buccaneer galleon looks a bit medieval to me but this kit the buccaneer seems like a good starting point and price point. One thing that is nice too, is I was able to order directly from OcCre and didn't have to deal with reseller prices, so thats a plus.92002-starter_pack_buccaneer.jpg

Welcome to MSW. Do think about a build log as it's a good way to get help and meet other builders.

Welcome to Model Ship World Robby.  OcCre makes good kits and the Buccaneer should build into a nice model.

Yep, the buccanner galleon is late 16th to early 17th century, the time of Sir Francis Drake, Hawkins, Raleigh etc. I'm not familiar with the model, but others have commented favourably above. It will take time and you'll hit the occasional problem, but the people here are very helpful and supportive, and with a bit of patience and persistence you should end up with a very attractive and rewarding model.

Yes, do start a build log. It's the best way to get feedback, advice and help. (And we do like seeing photos!)

Welcome to MSW and to the new adventure!

Thanks! And thanks for your input. I just got my fedex tracking number last night, coming from Spain to USA.  When you mentioned Sir Francis Drake I looked him up and saw that he was the captain of the golden hind, which OcCre also has a model of.  It looks like the Buccaneer may have been based off the same model. Which is cool to know that it looks like the proper era to those who know of such things. Thanks

Yes, quite an attractive model, too.

If you want to see the best research I've seen on Elizabethan period galleons, hie thee to Backer's Pelican/Golden Hind build at
