Had to pull her out of the shop to flip her round, and thought I’d take a few pics of her.

Thanks Pat...it it so good to be home and sleeping in my own bed.  I want to finish up the main tack lines and braces and add a bunch of rope coils before I really move on to the main shrouds and stays.  Still have to belay the port side yard braces for all the main yards too.  Rigging is getting hairy now.......

Worked a bit on Glory.  I actually finished up all the main and mizzenmast running rigging.

It’s so complex I can hardly believe it. The images just don’t do it full justice.  Here are a few of todays work. And some close ups.

Rob,

Work has kept me busier than usual, I haven't had a chance to comment until now. Thanks for those beautiful overall images of your impressive Glory of the Seas. As usual, mere words are insufficient to express my admiration for what you've accomplished. WOW! Is about the best I can do..... Wow, just wow.....

Very impressive, Rob, but would it be an idea if you used a plain background when taking your pictures. I think your masterpiece would stand out even more.

I have a mute or black drape I will use for pics.  To highlight the rigging.  I just don’t like moving the ship from room to room while I’m building her.  I’ll take better pics soon.

Hi Rob,

Vallejo Gallery has a nicer close-up of the Carl Evers starboard stern Glory of the Seas painting. They also include a nice write-up which describes this vessel as one of the greatest Clipper Ships ever made. Again what impressed me of your overall scenes of your model is the very lofty nature of her masts. These have got to be some of the tallest spars I've ever seen on any Clipper Ship. To get an idea of how massive this vessel was, look closely at the men depicted on the yards furling her sails. They look positively Lilliputian in comparison to the ship herself.

Vallejo is selling that painting and I enquired.  Too rich for my blood.

Im so impressed with this artist’s representation.    It is so close to my own impression, Cept for the chicken coop. I am so glad it looks like my model…….it’s almost uncanny.  This is proof evident.

Rob,

What initially blew my mind was Carl Ever's depiction of the deep red metallic hoops on all three lower masts. Until you described planning to paint the hoops on your replica red, I'd never heard of such a thing before. Then, I took acloser look at the Samuel Walter's piece and sure enough, the hoops on that work were also red.

Now, Mr. Ever's work also reflects the very loft masts of Glory of the Seas which I see replicated in your own work. It's unfortunate that this brilliant piece is too rich for your blood. Maybe it won't be beyond the reach of Michael Mjelde.

I had read in my studies, that Glory’s lower mast bands were red and that is because many captains did that to make a statement, to establish their uniqueness.  To fully make my model as accurate as possible……my bands had to be red.  And justification and validation came when these paintings depicted the same.  I’m just blown away with how really close I was in my own assessment. True validation of my own research and attention to detail.  I’m amazed myself.

Oh….the painting is going for many thousands of dollars.

Rob,

The one fact I'm most impressed with, about our group, is how every possible iota of McKay's final Clipper has been thoroughly researched to the nth degree for the most meticulous accuracy possible.

As for the beautiful painting going for thousands of dollars, I'm not surprised in the least.

Sitting last night preparing to go to work......I distracted myself by doing a bit more study, and it is interesting enough to ponder , that Glory had sucha varied history, that you nearly have to pin point an exact time that you want to model her, because of the numerous changes that occurred to her structures and rigging.  It is nearly impossible to confidently conclude that you have represented her *exactly* as she was....because as she was *changed* so many times...you can be absolutely correct and be totally different then the next *absolutely correct* model..

What NEVER changed was her hull lines...her elegant entry, hood and stem, and the strength and lines of her bulwarks and stern.

Again, after researching her house flag, the use of the Union Jack at her mast head(and how I might construct them).....I completely used up my allotted time to work on Glory.  So I didn't work on her at all last night........ What I did, however, was fill my imagination with more romantic notions of her history and legacy.   Stuff....that I will use to finish her up in the near future.....

Good thing we are not in any kind of race.   You’ll complete your Glory at the appropriate time.  Schedule’s are different, so must be our efforts.   Can’t wait for you to get back at it.

I took this pic of a painting of Glory that Mike has hung in his living room, that I believe he is considering to put on the cover of his next book.  I don’t recall the artist.  The bottom image is from a different artist.   Both from Mike.

Wish I had a better image.

We’ll….starting up again is going slowly.   This weekend was full of “other” projects……..like cleaning out the garage and a big church picnic.    I hope this next week will be more productive.  Here are the beginnings of the fore shrouds.

Rob,

When family comes over, is your Glory of the Seas project the center of attention? Some day I would love to see her in person. At nearly four feet in length, she must be spectacular.

Actually, I keep her tucked away out of sight and from prying fingers.  Many Grandkid's can reek havoc if not controlled.  In this instance.....we gathered elsewhere.

Yeah...once I get all the head gear rigged and the fore stays and the jib halliards installed...She will take on a much larger presence.

I hope to finish off the port fore shrouds and get a good start if not finish the starboard shrouds today.  One small task down...then I'll tackle the ratlines as another small task.  One small task at a time and before you know it...she will be through.

Spent a bit of time finishing up the port shrouds and their rat lines.  Added the fair leads too.   Now to run and belay some of the previously installed bunt lines.

One NEW remodel update, I want to share.

From almost the beginning of the install of the martingale....I've been disappointed with my results.   Meaning:   I made the martingale too long.

This has bothered me, but I was too lazy to do anything about it...hoping I would get over it...or it would *blend* in.

NO SUCH LUCK.   After further remeasuring, I have determined that the martingale is nearly 2 scale ft. longer then its prototype.  This is easily calculated by measuring the martingales length on any profile image of Glory, and then comparing that with any other known measurement.  What I did was identify that the distance from the bottom of the bowsprit measuring down to the lower bobstay, is exactly the length of the martingale.

When I tried to replicate this comparison method on my model, it was clearly obvious, that my martingale was too long.  By...again...2 scale ft.

NOT failing to mention that,  it just *Looks* too long, when looking over the entire model.   Soooooo.

I will remove the chain stays from the martingale and where they attach to the jibboom....  Remove the martingale...cut it down to size, then reinstall the chain stays....making the appropriate adjustments to their lengths.

This will be a relative simple modification, *And I know.......I hate re-doing stuff*, but in the end, it will be accurate.....and I won't hate myself for not making the correction when it was easiest to do so.

Stay tuned for this fun and exciting redo.   I'll finish the ratlines and fairleads on the shrouds first.  Thanks for all those with discerning eyes, who noticed this and  refrained from mentioning it to me.....so My wittle feewings wouldn't be hurt.  I appreciate it.<_<
