Working on this model for about a year. Made many mistakes but still plugging along. 

Admiralty workshops that I have attended in the past have helped a lot.

The Sea Watch books covering the construction of this model are indispensable.

I'm not a big fan of .jpg. Too long a time to transfer files. If viewers prefer .jpg, I will attach in that format.

Please do go with the jpgs.  I agree, most folks will not open the attachments.  When I attach a jpg here , it takes the same as a pdf, a second or less.

My take on porthole construction:

 

1. I like the approach of previous posts that used templates for the construction of framing about the portholes (see photo)

2. First I cut the sill slots on one frame only. 

3. I trim the next frame (base of sill using the template to determine where to cut.

4. Temporarily setting the outside frame against the sill base, I mark the cut positions, remove the frame and perform the sill cuts. 

5. I set and glue one frame spacer into position and clamp (see photo). 

6. After the glue is set in step 5, I glue the short frame upright over the middle of the sill  and the final spacer into position. I use home made clamps fabricated as described on p.44 of "The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships" by Longridge. I find these clamps to be the most versatile.

 

There is some conflict with the frame positions on the building board, but I chose to use the positioning dictated by the templates which conform to the NMM plans.

Looking good Richard. However, please check the position of the outer hawse hole. It may just be the camera perspective but it looks a bit low to me. They should be near the center of the boxing.

Update on my Frame Thickness issue.

I reduced the top of frame thickness to 6" on the bow. Attached photo shows before (top of photo) and after (photo bottom). As you can see, quite a bit of material was removed. Looks a lot better.ved.

Re-doing the Bow Cant Frames 2 thru 12. I decided to use an interior form

based the on NMM Forecastle Deck Plan.
