Better instructions?

There seems to be a lot of kits that one could recommend to beginners if they only had better construction descriptions.
I'm wondering if it's ok to write a construction description for a kit and post it online? Or do you do something illegal then?

What you are describing sound similar to a detailed build log? Nothing illegal about that, as long as you don’t include the original plans or text verbatim or in large chunks. I think what you propose would be what in US copyright law is called “fair use”. This allows you to comment or critique a copyrighted work for educational and similar reasons.

Part of the instruction problem is with the older kits.  Many of the new ones  like Syren, CAF, Vanguard just to name a few, have very good instructions. Many of the older kits from companies like AL will never be upgraded or improved.

One observation: No matter how good the instructions, diagrams and photos may be, they are useless if you don't read them!

Reading them, is sometimes the only way to determine they are useless..😄

I worked with guy who was a welder who only needed to look a plan once for a particular job.  The third time someone asked him about which plans was he using and he responded "I don't need no plans" got him fired.  It was an Army project and the army inspector had him fired on the spot for not having the plans.   Funny thing was... what he was welding was perfect.  So yes, read the plans, put them on your workbench in case someone asks.

I helped out in a school cafeteria for a while.

 Even though we are talking about simple dishes that the staff had prepared hundreds, if not thousands of times,

if a supervisor came through, and you did not have the recipe nearby, you would be severely reprimanded.
