wel so far the repair job is holding

finished the last of the trenailing (with my last toothpick lol) ther is still some left to do on a smaller deck so i ll need to get some more. i did notice the difference in quality between brands. the last few ones where much sharper so easier to insert.

 

 

for the last 2 weeks i have slowly been bending the ventilation part and the deck that goes on top of it. i am now about ready to assmeble it all and finish of the 3rd deck stateroom and the last bit of the lights

Sorry about the break Adrieke especially when you're coming toward the final stretch ...I bet your fix will go well since it was a clean break. Still, it's the warts and dings that give character and tell her story... yeah, go with that She is a beauty and you can be proud

sanded down the trenails and then did a final sanding of the whole deck

 

now i can instal the 3 stairs on deck 2 and then finish off the headposts on that level

 

i have also glued the 3rd deck stateroom to the deck. the finishing of the wiring can soon start

I see no mistake, only gorgeous diagonal flooring...we're our own worst critics ... I'm sure whatever it is is HUGE to you... but no one will see it...

Thanks Randy . no its not Huge to me just when i noticed it thought how the hell did i do that. With the outer railing it probably wont even be visible .

 

anyway its not something i can fix without  dismanteling most of the ship and i aint going to do that

have added the 2 front stairs

 

also working on the back railing and headposts of the 2nd deck. the reason why i start there as i delayed installing the paddlewheel so i have no fear of hitting into it when i am installing them.

The stairs look a lot more regular than mine did

I had a real job getting them to look the same

Also I have only just noticed, must get some new glasses  , that you have put wood pins in your planking

Would you always put that on any ship planking???

I have to admit I didn't think about it with the Spirit

Maybe that would have increased my build time by a week or so 

I would always put it on a sailing ship but as I said, never thought about it for the Spirit

I do love your planking though

this is onlt my second ship. i did them on the virginia too but this one did mean a lot more extra work

 

there have been discussion on this forum about usign them or not as at the scale we are working at they would hardly be noticable. i did some tests on the parts of the decks that are not visible and after a few tries had somethign that was visibly pleasing to me so i went with it. I am considereing doing them on the endeavour on the hull too but i realise thats a lot more dificult then the decks

unfortunately no big selection but i have some chimay ,hoegaarden and stella artois so help yourself

put the back central railing in on the second deck but not happy wiht it. AL provided the brass railing all of the same size so for this long railing you need to add 2 parts together which as you can see leaves a bit bigger gap (well in this photo the stairs are sort of masking it but its very noticable). need to see if i cna move the left headpost about .5 mm to the right. that woudl do it on that level but the same issue will be on the 3rd deck

haha MIck its hard to resist a box full of parts

 

here is  a better picture of the gap i am talking about (red circle):

 

they should have included some larger railings as there are about 7 or 8 places where a single railign is not long enough

 

i have removed the railign and reduced the wooden parts by .5 mm and glued the botomed one back with the headpost pressed against it.

 

i have now taken all the brass railigns out of the sheet so i can file them neat and touch up with white paint
