For the quaterdeck entrace of GH2, I am keeping the basic design on GH1 - basically an open entrance with more covering on both sides.

Gosh~ I did not realize that my last update was more than 6 months ago…

I did manage to do some work on GH2 during this period and will share below some progress pictures (and some comments where needed) on work streams where design and/or methodology differ significantly from GH1.

All the decks have been done in a similar way as in GH1, so no additional progress pictures are posted.

On GH2, I decided to go for a much simpler upper hull decoration, also giving more contrast to hull color vs. wale & decoration color. I used mainly thin ebony strips for the upper hull decoration.

For stern painting, I commisioned my art student daughter to do 3 golden hind paintings. I chose one of them for GH2.

BTW, the smudges on the edge of the deer is my doing, not my daughter’s. I made stupid mistake while varnishing the stern picture.

For stern  balcony, I decided to apply a more streamlined and compact design as below.

The rail design of the bow area has been changed from GH1. All the subsequent rails will be done in this style.

I was looking through my 'following' list and wondered how the build was going. I knew it had been a while since your post. I didn't realize how long.

Great progess and looks fantastic.

Hope to see more on this build.

Me too.  I haven't worked much on my little project.  Got to buckle down and get working on it.

Hi all~

Just a small update… I realized that for GH1, I forgot to install the ship’s bell. So, for GH2, I made a tiny bell out of left-over dowel and painted it black, varnished with matt varnish. I think it turned out OK.

I tried different methods and made couple of more for future projects. I may try to install it for GH1 as well once I resume with the rigging work on GH1.

Hello shipmates~!

Some updates on GH2 (Golden Hind 2) where the methodologies I applied and/or materials I used differ from GH1.

The whipstaff house design is more or less same as GH1, but I used slightly different methods to put them together more solidly.

For the staghorn kevel, I was looking for a more solid material that could be thinner/smaller and still provide strong structural strength.

I accidentally came across a small wooden tweezer in a discount store that satisfied my original purpose but also provided me with basic shapes that I can utilize as is for the kevel creation.

IMG_1644.jpeg

As you can see from above picture, I used most of its original shape to construct the kevel. Saving me much time!

Slightly thinner and smaller ones are the new kevels.

Hello shipmates~

A small update today. With the remnants of the small wooden clips, I made portholes(not sure if this is the right jargon) for the lines that would lead inside (from outside) to be tied to the staghorns. Below are some pictures of the work carried out.

I have not applied this feature in GH1. But, I think I need to (or at least I will try to).

Also, there is slightly different feature vis-a-vis the weatherdeck cannons. I tried to render a situation where some cannons are stowed away.

GH2 hull work is almost finished. My next update will feature the comparison photos of GH2 to GH1 and the resumption of work on GH1 - masts, rigging and so on.
