Hi from Australia.

Hi all, I'm Glen from Sydney Australia.

I've been plastic modelling for a few years and doing some scratchbuilding in wood and styrene, mostly easy structures, but now it's time to try the big time.
I'm starting off easy with OcCre's Polaris. My other hobby, oil painting, has taught me that thought and planning happen before the first brush stroke hits the canvas, so I'm treating this hobby with the same approach. I've just started the planking, it's so satisfying getting them to lay down.

I joined the merchant navy out of school and did that for 6 years, carrying various cargo around Australia and steel to New Zealand. I'm always doing something creative and I like modelling, it's both cerebral and manual.

Not sure if I will contribute much to the forum but I'll certainly give my 2c if I've discovered something. All the best!

Good luck on your Polaris.  Consider creating a build log.  Great way to get advice and feedback on your model.

G'day, Glen, from sunny Ballarat, and welcome to MSW. Where in Sydney do you hail from? (I lived there for many years).

Make sure you start a build log for your model - it's a great way to get help and advice from the experienced members of MSW (and from others who've been up against the same problems you're bound yo face at some point as you make your merry way through the wonderful world that is ship modelling. If it's a kit, there are instructions at the top of the "Kits" section of the forum here -

And have fun with it. That's what it's all about.

Steven

Welcome to MSW from one merchant mariner to another!    Do take the advice in the first response to your post, start a build log if you would like advice and help.  It will probably help you overcome most of the obstacles you are going to encounter along the way.  We have all bumped into them, so do not fret when you hit a snag.
