Hello everyone,

So I've ended up here as a surprise to myself, I've always loved all things miniature, constantly watching people make the most amazing things on YouTube, one being model ships, I've always thought that they look amazing with the sails and all of the intricate rigging but I have a slight issue, I never bite the bullet and actually get anything myself, I get option paralysis and just never get anything.

So after a long while of looking my birthday came along and a large box was passed to me by my beautiful other half, I have my first ship, it's going to be completely against the first post I just read about new members builds but I am the proud owner of The Endurance.

I hope that I can become one of the few members that complete a not so beginner build and go against the grain.

I've already started it and I'll be uploading a few pictures of where I am at in a build diary in the next few days.

Wish me luck, I'll probably need some!

Welcome Aboard to Model Ship World Chris.  There are a lot of like-minded ship modelling enthusiasts here.   There are a few build logs for the Endurance in the build logs for kits section of MSW.  I would check those out before you start your build.

When you finish the Endurance, this will be a nice display model for both you and your better half.

Enjoy your building journey.

I've been looking at them already, some really nice changes to the kit for accuracy, nothing that I'd be willing to try just yet! I did make one change out of personal preference so far,the deck, I didn't like the pencil drawn boards with the nail marks so I cut them all individually, it doesn't look perfect but I think that was my issue with it, it looked unrealistic to me, god it took a long time doing it with a craft knife (trip to the model shop for a new tool to cut thin bits about 3/4 of the way through!), not nearly as much time as removing a load of the boards when I realised I'd cut out the rib notches and that they weren't going to be covered like I'd thought 😭. It's looking good so far though, I'm currently sanding down the ribs for the hulls form.

The tricky part with the build diaries is that people do things in a different order, extra or not at all for preference, convenience or artistic, but it's a great resource for seeing how experienced people do it differently and what techniques they use, I'll be looking into the different methods being used to form the hull next and pick and study what to do.

Chris, I hope you'll start a build log that way the next new Endurance builder can see how you modified the deck. We learn by sharing.

One tip if you decide to do a log is you don’t have to record in the same order you do things. I often was working on multiple parts of Alert in the background which I didn’t post on until I had some sort of result to show or I had a question I wanted feedback on. I suspect this is true of most logs.

If you just take lots of pictures as you go along you can always go back and add words later. I keep an album in my online photo repository for each project I am working on. Plus I found posting helped to motivate me to make progress when I was bogged down.

As a general rule when checking out other build logs I read well ahead of where I am on the build. It is always better to learn from others mistakes rather than your own :).
