We do have a few digital books in our webstore and we offer a digital subscription to the Journal, our 100 page, quarterly publication.  To see a free copy of a digital Journal back issue, you can go to our website to check it out: (https://thenrg.org/journal)

The digital Journal costs only $40 per year and a portion of your membership also helps support MSW

Unfortunately, while we provided most of the articles for this Special Edition Handbook, we are not the publishers of this booklet, so we have no control whether they decide to produce a digital version of it or not.  If they do, I suspect it won't be until demand for the print version dies down.

The NRG collaborated on this publication that is printed by FineScale Modeler's parent company.  We provided the content, but they own the handbook.

We will contact them and tell them many would really like to see a pdf version.  If they say yes or no we will report back.

I second the suggestion of a pdf-version for future books. Shipping is twice the price of the book, importtaxes will be around 20% of total costs (book and shipping combined).  Even a 25dollar pdf is far cheaper for me than a 13 dollar hard-copy send by Ups…..

Kurt talked with a rep from the publisher's office today, but she didn't know if they were going to have a PDF version eventually or not.  Of course sales of the PDF would not benefit the NRG or MSW, since those would be sold directly through the publisher, but if you buy one from them, then you could afford to donate a couple of bucks to MSW, too.  😉

A couple of years ago, we had a member who ordered a flash drive from us.  The member lives in North Carolina.  I tracked the package heading east, but then it turned back and headed southwest.  It got as far as Texas and sat there for a few days.  I contacted the post office as soon as I saw it go off course.  They finally corrected the direction and the member received it a few days later.  Another member who lives in Indiana - less than 40 miles from here, had his order go to Puerto Rico and then come back.  I could have driven it to the guy's house!  The Post Office is crazy sometimes!

Funny but not funny if you're the one on the receiving end.

WARNING! Do not try to read your brand-new copy of the Ship Modeler's Handbook after slathering your chapped hands with Trader Joe's Head to Toe balm -- apparently it acts as a solvent on the magazine's inks. Ask me how I know! 😬

Content-wise, the magazine itself is a treat!

Hello,

DHL messed up the package. It cleared customs on Tuesday, 25th of March, and since then no further progress. "consignment was processed in letter mail centre". I called, but was told to wait until Friday and then have a research started. When I try to do that, I get the notice that it is not possible to have it researched, as it is a letter, no package. You might imagine my frustration.

Hi Kauz,

We do not ship by DHL, so there must be a mistake in the tracking.  I just checked it and here is what it says:

International Transit

Processed through Facility

FRANKFURT/FLUGHAFEN, GERMANY

Hopefully it will be straightened out soon.

Mary

PS - Please send any further inquiries to the NRG office email: nrghomeoffice@gmail.com.

That way I can figure out faster who you are since we have no members named Kauz.

I think USPS cooperates with DHL. When customs were cleared the package was transferred to DHL for delivery within Germany. I was able to track the package with the DHL app, and it is in their system. Usually it's a matter of 2 days maximum until I get a consignment after it was processed in the letter processing centre. Not so this time. Meanwhile I have re-ordered the book, as from similar experiences I have little hope that the package surfaces again.

Of course it's not the fault of NRG, and I'd never blame our guild. Just had to let off some steam 😉

Sorry

I am very sorry this has happened.  I will wait a couple of days before I process your new order - just in case the first order shows up.  If it does, let me know right away and I can cancel the second order for you.

Hi Kauz,

Here is your full tracking information from the time it left our office until today.  As you can see, our postal service is not the best.  Your package sat in Chicago for5 or 6 days before it finally flew to Germany.

I was able to pick up a copy at my local hobby shop for 13.99.  I enjoyed the issue very much and will be looking forward to future issues. Also, I just picked up the latest issue of Fine Scale Modeler and saw that it had a section pertaining to wooden ship modeling. I am hopeful that this along with the inclusion into IPMS is signaling an increase in popularity of our hobby.

Unfortunately 'local hobby shops' are becoming few and far between!
