Mike - Thanks for your answers. One more question - Is the bow end of the garboard strake terminate in front or behind the scarf joint on the keel? Even blowing up your pictures It is hard to find your scarf joint. Also any chance you have a picture looking direct at the stern? I would like to see the termination of your planks end on.

Every time I use CA I am reminded why it was invented in the first place. To glue skin.

Darrel - I like what you are doing. I wish I could help on the rail. On my Bluenose I screwed up and did not have the reveal. it is flush. Also remember that for the quarter deck the rail is covered by the monkey rail. so any joint should be easy to conceal. Just a note on your color choices. You probably know that she was not coppered. she was a wooden hull, and she was painted below the waterline with anti fouling paint. I have spent some lovely time with mask and safety glasses underneath a wooden fishing boat scraping and sanding. The most fun was the grinding with a power drill of the bronze rudder and prop. NOT!

Mike - As usual I would like a bit more detail on your planking. It looks perfect! So here are my questions - Did you find you needed 12 planks per side like the instructions say? Did you taper all of the planks? Did you need to edge bend all of their or just a few? The garboard stake - where does it end at the bow? If I look carefully it looks like you had a drop plank at the stern is this true?

Looking real good. It appears that yours and my model have much the same materials and plans regardless of the different scale.

Pops, Did you try Acetone? I prefer the Acetone to sanding. But you are correct you need to treat the metal before you blacken. I soak in Acetone then rinse. After everything is completely dry I blacken. I use a 2:1 mixture of the Blacken It. I am also careful to rinse this so that the chemical reaction stops. And then get it completely dry so that there is no rust.

Mike - As I said before, it is hard to keep up with you. I feel I am always dragging you back to ask questions. You mention that you edge bent your planks. did you do this before or after you curved them around a bottle cap or similar device. And how did you keep you edge bend when you resoaked and bent the curve? I am ready to install the first plank on the wale. I need to have significant curve for the bow and some edge bend too. Trying to figure this part out.

Pops - I don't know what kind of camera you have. But I have found that when I take Digital pictures the flash is often too much and no flash is not enough. So what I do is change the settings so that the ASA is higher or just increase the sensitivity. you might also try editing on your computer. Will you please slow down! so that I can catch up with you?

Pops - You should be happy with the result. and you should be pleased with your accomplishment. You are over the hump and now have the understanding for the next project. You are non longer a novice. For your final coat may I suggest Wipe On Poly. You can get it is a Satin finish and it is easy to use. I always have a can of it handy.
