Wow!!! Nicely done. You clearly found a better solution to the problem. Keep us posted on your progress.

Good result in shaping a caronnade from a dowel, JesseLee. I would as Steve suggested make a pattern to check the overal shape of the caronnade. Then you'll know how much you need to take off, and where, at certain stages during the process.
Casting with resin may be an option as suggested, although I do not know the costs. You've got your initial form to make the mold ... Kees de Mol did some resin work on his build too (look here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/10339-kw88-pelikaan-by-kees-de-mol-dutch-beamtrawler-1999-scale-175/page-5#entry376627 ) It does have it's merrits ...
Cheers

Jesse,
What David said.. is casting an option?

Jessie are you set up for casting them in resin? This would be a better alternative than turning each one.

I can't even get started on one, and you've got a whole fleet going on. I can only bow to your "brassiness".

Nice job on the carronade Jesse! Steve's got a good idea with using a template as a guide!

Great work, Jesse. The new wooden carronade is a vast improvement.
Could you use the metal pattern shape as a template guide to check how much more shaping was required ??
I realize this doesn't reduce the amount of work you will need to do, but will help to maintain consistency across all of the new cannons.

Well, after starting to try wrapping with paper & CA, everyone was right. Way too much thickening required & I gave up on that idea. Thought I'd see how difficult turning Carronade barrels out of wood dowels would be. Held in a drill & using mostly files This is how the first one looks. This is somewhat difficult & time consuming for me but still much less time consuming than the paper & CA would be. I tried to use a pattern for shaping the whole barrel at one time cut into the side of a piece of metal but for some reason it wouldn't cut the wood. So I'm cutting each section with the files & modeling blades. Have actually got a second one turned & got them the same but wondering how difficult it will be to keep them consistent since there has to be 16 of them.

Great band back in the day! Saw 'em do the "Machine Head" tour in '73.

Thanks for the likes and the comments...
I've done 3 rudder coats so far and no joy. I'm not sure if it's me and fat fingers, the scale, or the material. But I will persevere on this endeavor for a bit longer. I'm going to try a different material.
I suspect you're right about when it's right side up, Carl. I like the logic anyway.
Reasons or excuses? I have the plans ready for a build cradle. I've been staring at the inside and what needs to be done to the outside... I may just bite the bullet in the near future. I do like the solid feeling of the build board. Sort of like hiding out in a blanket fort.
The build is still young Sam. I could easily end up with 5 also.

That's some good-looking rope. Like Jason, I don't think the entire stay would be served, like the shrouds are.

Looking great as always Robb! Ahh the sails...well I've spent countless hours trying to figure this one out. I'm with Jesse on the "it depends." Wind, heading, size of ship, all come into play. I found google images helpful. Just typed in type of ship and then changed terms, full sails, furled sails, etc. Hope that helps. Also add 'aerial view' to get a better feel of the wind.

Thanks Ulises !
You give a very nice example !
So I will do it that way.
And yes, also the mouse get his/her rope......
The rope is coming from Morope in Germany.
I only have to secure the end of the rope with glue.
I try a little bit and it works great !
I hope I can start on sunday.( or Anja has to be other plans for that day....)

I`d prefer more to chat about some progress and to post finished wheel box, but ... ah that life ...
Sweet clumsy bear !!!! Also neckerchief, "Pearls in the hair" (Omega) ... bobtail has a hair, yes?
Also me Gerhard. But just to mention my taste - Deep Purple was not the same after Ian Gillan left. I still sometimes let the music of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led zeppelin do the boards (?) ... volume to max ... until kids scream to shut it
My worm ... where is my sand worm ?
Helo and wellcome Angarfather. Two days after my back hurts, every muscle in pain, and job is not done jet. Office works and rain #$%$
I have seen some photos of you playing on your old FB pages, Denis. I envy you for that. My last time ... seven years ago, when Hothead have got his drum set for 18th birthday, I was playing with drums also, and we decide to make session in attic of my house: My nephew come with electric guitar and a bass guitar with strong amplifier, he played bass, my twin brother solo, and I played drums ... Paranoid, Smoke on the water ... I think everybody in circle of 500m around house hear that ... later I heard rummors as " ... that crazy attorney ... he is fifty, what he is doing ? ... ". I did not care, still do not care what people talk ... who know me well do not have any complains, who do not - this is his problem, not mine.
Life goes on it`s way, and when I try my guitar couple of months ago (after many many years) it just do not listen to me. Forgot to play, forgot to sing ... i remember with sadness that long ago my repertoire was :
etc etc

You can see how much finer the dust is with the boxwood. I can't imagine it being easy to turn the basswood and get good results. Thanks for giving such detail.
