Hello to all!! At last, Amerigo Vespucci has arrived! This is my second ship build. First impressions: wood quality is better than that of my previous build and the manual, consists of 9 large sheets with general instructions (compared to the step by step manual of the previous build). Attached you may find photos from unpacking the kit and first dry fit. And now comes my first question: Starting from the bottom of the keel, at which distance should I carve the rabbet line? Thank you in advance for your help Dimitris

Hello Guy, Welcome to msw! In this forum you'll find information, techniques and solutions to anything you might encounter during your build. As far as the Bluenose model is concerned, I would personally rate it as one of easy to medium difficulty (note that I am a beginner myself too). I would strongly recommend this ship for a first time build. The manual is easy to understand with clear instructions. Nevertheless should you find it difficult in any way, all forum members including me are willing to help you at any point. When I started this build i got a lot of help from the members of a Greek Forum and then i discovered msw. Regarding Snake by Caldercraft i believe that it is probably a bit more complex. You could try that one after the Bluenose. Feel free to ask anything you might need. Kind regards, Dimitris

Good morning Rich.Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments.I'm not planning to add sails , because i feel that adding sails hides a big part of the details of the construction. Regards Dimitris

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
