Seems your Connie is inspiring me to start mine soon. Have taken the liberty of adding some of your pictures to my expanding library for reference later. I hope you don't mind. Nice Interior and lighting set up you have there. One question on the hull, is there much tightness when adding the two decks, 'ie', fit. Frank

Yes Daniel is shedding more light on this complex ship. I will how ever stick to the plans I have for the moment, it would still be possible to change the shape for the forecastle. Moved on to the top sails, first the main top sail. Added the parrel with a little glue to hold to yard/sail was in place. More ropes for tying on the sail later, just enuff to hold in position. At this stage I removed the tops Lantern incase of accidents, 'don't want the CM to have it'. With so many ropes and blocks on one sail when open makes it easier. Frank.

Thanks Bob Well Hendly is so hard to stop, keen is'nt in it lol. Started on the top sails and started with main top. Some pictures soon, plus Dafi's etched parts for the Lanterns on the stern. Frank

Well after a little break its back to Victory. Thanks Lawrence,M and OC. well was not happy at first with the parrels so tried out some brass one's. As it turned out mine were not to bad, so will be using both. Top one's are mine and bottom Caldercraft brass ribs and parrels. Then started once again on the leech and Bunting lines to there relevant belaying pins. Boson Hendly inspecting the work. Will shorten ropes later. Very fit is Boson Hendly, to the Fore top he goes. Frank.

They would have to be out side the hammock netting to allow entry from the Quarter deck to the Poop. As for guns on this deck, with the slope, mast and other things it would be very difficult I should imagine to mount them. Interesting all the same. Frank
-
Not in my book, that seems both feasible and practical . But am to far advanced to change this on my model. Like it all the same. Frank

Cheers Bob and Mike. Yes its coming on great, but have had to put on hold for a couple of months, need the space to store things. Re arranging my work space and a new Kitchen takes up all available space right now. But to keep me grey cells ticking over I am taking a look at USS Connie with some small work here until I can get back to Victory. Will finish Victory first!!!!. Frank

Well it all seem's feasible , but remember dropping anchor was done mostly if not always for bigger ships in port. So all hands to the ropes. Frank

'Anchors away'. Nice work Daniel. Very nice picture story of hanging the anchor. Frank

Just so. I would have liked to have been there Daniel, but for my two Daughters not able to make that week. Work comes first so they tell me!!!!. . Very nice pictures and no wonder the interest in your ship, small compared to some there but so much to see below decks. You must be very proud of your work, I know I would be in your shoes mate. Looked a great show. Frank.

How did you come by the Kevel's that adorn the bulkhead/Beakhead. Cannot find them on my reference's. But sure you have the answer . Frank.

Nice bit of reconstruction Daniel. Will you ever get to the next deck I wonder. A life times work and well worth it in my view,' well done sir'. foxy

Cheers Daniel and Lawrence, much appreciated matey's Well have mounted both fore and main lower yards, then its the Mizzen lower. This will have no sails,(better visibility). Main yard. Over all picture of the progress. With the weather turning very cold and with two heaters, its been hard on me old bones. Very pleased with the progress so far. The next stage is the upper yards, these with full sail is the plan. Plus the top sails. foxy

I did not know there was a scale deck version Evan. Can you give me pointers please(who to contact), doe's sound like a good idea for the decking. Following your build as ever. foxy

Hi Taz. On the yards and upper masts I have learnt its best to use wood/brass rod. I have on my Victory(Heller 1/100) found it very ness to do this way. Looking at my Connie has also persuaded me to do the same with wood and brass for the most flimsy parts. With advice. that in a warm room yards become floppy. For decking I would suggest using maple wood planks, but painting may also be a good option. Sails is a tricky one, but with running rigging it will still look busy. Your choice shipmate. Foxy

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
