The results were not as rich of a hue while being very light as I hoped, I think that was the natural color of the basswood and the way it absorbs the stain compared to a hard wood.
I used Minwax Wipe-On-Poly on my hull and it enhanced the color as well as providing a protective finish. Your staining looks good.

Very nice build. That photo etch is really small. Your stand is a great improvement over the kit version. This is going to turn out to be a very nice model.

Welcome to Model Ship World Tensecondsdown. You mentioned that you are a hobby machinist. There is a hobby machinist show held in Pennsylvania each year called Cabin Fever. The work these machinist do is just fabulous. They take real size blueprints and scale down their work. I really like the scaled down engines, both gasoline and steam. I have attached a video of a scaled down flathead engine:

Looks nice. That 1/600 photo etch is mighty small. You are doing a good job working with it.

Wormwood, I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Trident Alert kit from China. It sounds like Trident is being investigated for violation of fair trade. I would not send them more money as I do not see how this would help the situation. You have been given good advice in the above comments. I hope you get your money back through your credit card company. Unfortunately, my experience is this will take a long time before it is fully resolved. Good luck on this.

Super job on this model. The wooden deck and photo etched parts made this model come to life. I am glad you took pictures during the build process to show us some of the step you took during construction of this model.

As the new owner of a Byrnes table saw, I too have been subjected to these kick back effects.
Novice in the matter, I learn by trial and error to avoid them.
If an experienced user, could illustrate the correct way to do this using step by step photos or a video, I think more than one of us would benefit from it ...
I would definitely learn from a how-to tutorial on the use of a Byrnes or other make table saw. I have learned a lot from reading the above comments.
And Olha is a very gifted and talented ship model builder. I enjoy seeing her amazing work and I am glad she is sharing it with us.

Looks like a good kit. I am glad you have started a build log.

Be careful staining basswood. It will soak up the stain and could cause the overall finish to become blotchy. I thinned my stain with Minwax natural. I also used Minwax pre stain wood conditioner. There was a lot of discussion on staining basswood in the early Longboat build logs. It is a good idea to test the stain before you apply it to the hull. You are making good progress on your build.

Welcome to Model Ship World Swallowtail. It looks like you have done a good job on the deck planking. I am glad you found the problem with bulkhead 6. By adding material to this bulkhead, it will ensure a smooth run of the planks. Do not worry about building in spurts as a lot of us do this. The main thing is to enjoy the building process and build at whatever pace you want.

Welcome back to MSW Dave. We have grown a bit since you were here last, but I am sure you will meet up with some old friends and make new ones. We have some fantastic build logs in progress and completed that you can view. Our Gallery of completed models has also grown tremendously. I hope to see a build log when you get settled.

I am enjoying your build log. That was a good tip on using a glue stick to hold your parts. Astrophotography must be an amazing hobby. You must have quite a setup to see deep into outer space.
