  1. I've still got my old K+E slip stick from college and a couple of circular ones from my flying career. 😉
  2. That is one good looking car, Yves. Well done.
  3. Thanks for filling in some of the blanks, EG. I've been dealing with the various forms of resin used in modeling and the current polyurethane resin used to cast in molds and the resins used in 3D printing are safe. It can be brittle, so be careful while working with it.
  4. OC, the quality of the resin prints and castings are so much better now that the amount of sanding is reduced from earlier models. Spaceman Spiff's ship, in modern kit builds, is an example of the older resin pours, which needed a lot of sanding to remove the over-pour. The over-pour nubs made for a lot of dust and the dust was an irritant for breathing. Well fit dust masks were required. Greg, sorry for the hijack, but resin kits are a bigger part of the hobby now. Carrying over some old wive's tale will make people shy away from using this newer medium. Thank you for the opportunity to spread the truth.
  5. Always fun (?) cleaning up these resin kits, between the mold -release agent, excess flash and the printer "fingers" or attachment points. What did you use to remove the fingers from the parts?
  6. Glad to hear your abode is once again weather tight. My area was pretty fortunate that we didn't have the widespread flooding, but a few friends up in the Swannanoa area (east of Asheville) are driving miles to get to operational stores. Oddone turned out nicely. I looked up frangipane and it's an almond flavored pastry filling.
  7. Can't wait to see how you turn this into another jewel, Craig. These car kits are so neat. They beat the daylights out of the old AMT and MPC kits from the 60s.
  8. You really captured the various metals as aged surfaces. The rust is spot on and the paint worn off the tractor parts turned out super. 👍
  9. Nice build, Phil. Captain Eddie turned out well. 👍
  10. Phil, those open corrugated cardboard pieces keep the build strong? And they're thin enough? That's a good cost saver.
  11. beautiful finish. I can't wait to see it after your compounding and waxing. 😎
  12. Nice work, fitting that coupler box. Very handy tool.
  13. Amen on those Amodel kits. You did a good job wrestling this one into a recognizable Yak. Well done. I look forward to your next aircraft project. 👍
  14. Interesting story, Alan. I'm in.😉
  15. Nice color combination. Back in the day, they really liked to show off the mechanicals with bright paints.
  16. Glad to read things are looking better for you these days, Alan. Your continuing with your hobby are a good portion of that. You're doing a very nice job wrestling with this A Model Yak. As I remember, it has tandem mains and pogos at the wingtip positions. Sort of like our B-47/52 models and the U-2. Your BMF are looking pretty good, especially your Dragon.😁
  17. I wouldn't give up on resin, based on one manufacturer.I believe this kit is one of their first issues. Their resin then has been replaced by better resins for we modelers. The resins do use CA glue, not plastic cements of wood glues. Look at the detail parts you get from Model Monkey and other aftermarket providers. They are superbly detailed. And there are some plastic kit makers who do limited run kits with no alignment pins, which will give many folks fits. Search around on various websites to get an idea on who makes the model closest to what you want to build. I use scalemates.com, steelnavy.net and modelwarships.com to begin a search.
  18. Your aircraft and figures really add life to the Big E. Well done. Only nit is the officers on the bridge were in khakis and black shoes, not dress whites or dungarees. 😉😁
