Canute reacted to Haliburton in Krupp Mörser 10/16 by Haliburton - FINISHED - Takom - 1/35 Scale
Additional mud effects were added to the wheels and the decal added showing the ‘graffiti’ (City of WPG) added by the Canadian troops who captured the gun - I understand this refers to the City of Winnipeg. With that I will call this build finished thank you all for looking in and your likes.

Canute reacted to ccoyle in Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat by ccoyle - FINISHED - WAK - 1/33 - CARD
A small amount of progress today. Further work on the gear:
While waiting for these to dry, I decided to work on the numerous fairings and other bits on the lower wing surfaces, starting with two large intakes. IMO, these are over-engineered and result in no significant gain in either sturdiness or ease of construction. The Halinski Wildcat uses a mere three parts to make each of these structures; the WAK kit uses SEVEN -- three separate outer skins plus four internal frames. Despite their apparent simplicity, these were no cakewalk to make, and I'm not completely happy with how they turned out.
Cheers!

Great for gluing PE to plastic and resin or wood to plastic or resin, too.

Have you thought of getting some figures 3D printed? I have a number for my build and you can get a wide range of characters and poses.
Need to get back to mine but my son has me helping him paint Warhammer and Lord of the Rings figures. Keep up the good work it is inspiring me to dust mine off and do some more buildings.

Canute reacted to DocRob in Renault RE20 Turbo by DocRob - FINISHED - Tamiya - 1/12
Thank you Gary, the clear coat will remain another phew opportunity hopefully. I plan to apply a layer of MR. Hobby GX-100 as a protective and unifying coat and to give the paint and decals some depth. GX-100, is used by many fellow modelers to great satisfaction, but I had mixed results, or being moe precise, fantastic ore terrible results, so i long for a 'phew'.
Cheers Rob

Thank you Craig, there is one tiny fold remaining after a day of drying, with the application of a strong solvent. In all, it loos nice, given, that decaling is one of my most dreaded tasks in modeling.
Cheers Rob

Canute reacted to Javelin in Roman Quinquereme and Claw by Glen McGuire - FINISHED - 1/500 - BOTTLE
I was thinking along the same lines as Keith, but I don't think it will be practical. Outside a bottle perhaps, but sliding the hull halves through a noose (which you can't really hold open) will be very difficult, especially with those oars sticking out.
Unfortunately I don't really have a better solution to offer apart from "regular" conical locating pins and pushing the hull halves together by the parts on top of the bow and stern.
Perhaps a variation on Keith's idea by putting nooses around the stern, bow top and ram to pull together. Those nooses would probably be easier to loop around when the hull halves are inside the bottle, and they'd leave the oars alone.

Canute reacted to Glen McGuire in Roman Quinquereme and Claw by Glen McGuire - FINISHED - 1/500 - BOTTLE
Hmmm. That's an interesting idea, Keith. I'm also thinking about a process like below where I drill holes in the bottom of the hulls, make 2 small platforms with upright dowels that fit into those holes, insert the platforms into the bottle, insert each hull half onto each platform, slide them together, then lift the joined hull off. I'll have to do some test runs to see which will be easier.

Canute reacted to Javelin in Spartacus by Javelin - FINISHED - 1/2000
Then it was time to start coating the bottom. First coat.
As you can see it was a bit too liquid to stay on the vertical surfaces, but that's not too bad. I also opted not to give the styrene a dark coat. I've thought about it, but I believe it would give an overall darker appearance, obscuring the anchors etc. once it's submerged in epoxy. Also the sand would probably not stick very well, while now it is bonded directly to the styrene plate.
In the right corner you can also see one of my secret measuring tools. The paper Ikea measurement tapes are easy to use as you can bend them and measure between obstacles etc. where straight rulers can't be used.
You can see the spaces where the anchors should be. I'm going to "cheat" by rigging the wires to the small steel brackets that are drilled in the plate and later on put the anchors over these brackets. It would be difficult to attach the wires directly to the anchors and create enough tension to keep the wires taut.
Test fitting of the ship. After this test, I decided to actually change the position of the PS bracket since the original position is a bit too much forward.
Everything fits, so I'll continue with the second layer of sand, this time with more density, less liquid and just filling up spots where the first layer is too thin.

Canute reacted to Mirabell61 in ERGENSTRASSE by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - 1:87 - steamship
Update
Started with the painting of the hull. The paint sticks on quite well together with the used promoting bounding primer for shiny aluminium. The lettering (names, homeport) is not yet attached but already printed in white letters on self adhesive black background foil (cut out patches).
I also started with the ships boats, because they are double-ender lifeboats, It will only require 1/2 a boat as a plug for doing the silicon mould. They will be cast in resin. Each two halves will be glued together, (total 8 halves), trimmed and 4 boats then brought to final shape.
I shall try to get some appropriate decals in transparent with white lettering for the front and aft depth markings, and for the Plymsoll mark midships
Nils
the sub-waterline is "African red" silk, acrylic paint, the upper hull is silk black, a silicone based black paint used for iron stoves and thear ductwork
the lettering printed on black foil (for cutting out patches)
preparing to make 1/2 a plug for the silicon mold for the ships boats that will be cast in resin afterwards

Canute reacted to Roger Pellett in TITANIC by Force9 – Trumpeter - 1/200 - PLASTIC - White Star Liner
A number of years ago a local organization held an event involving dinner followed by screening of the movie Master and Commander. To add atmosphere to the evening I brought a Dockyard style model that I had built- exposed framing below the bends. An otherwise intelligent lady, in all seriousness asked how the vessel floated with the holes in the bottom.
Be prepared for people to ask you if that large hole that you left in Titanic’s bottom is what caused her to sink! 😆😆

Good to see you back at it, Alan. Castle is coming along nicely.
One hint on that Amodel Yak. The fit is how can I say, challenging. I started a Yak-28 Firebar interceptor and stopped with the engine nacelles awaiting fitting to the wings. The weapons are kind of dodgy, too.
