Sorry to hear of your recent health issues Keith. I wish you a speedy recovery as you contemplate your engineering challenges.

Ugh, so sorry to hear of your rotten health luck lately. I'm sure the "bum wing" doesn't make caregiving any easier. Hang in there, even one-armed, and look forward to better days soon.

    Thank you, Lynn

Work on Lula has ground to a halt due to Maggie and I coming down with some illness that left us incapacitated. I was in recovery when yesterday I slipped on the icy back steps taking out the trash. I came as close to breaking my left arm as possible without actually breaking it so now I'm dealing with a bum wing.

Having said the above I have had a chance to go over some of the engineering required for the wheel and engine room/pilothouse. Because the engine room's forward wall will be open, one could bend down and peer into the engine room. This requires that I build steam engines and building two engines that look alike will be a challenge that I look forward to. I had not counted on making engines but the engine room needs to be open for beam engine workspace. I have to build the engines first where I'll know exactly how far back the wheel sits and then I'll know exactly where the openings in the wheel wall need to be for the pitman arms not forgetting the openings for and making of the rudder post. These items all need to be made in concert with one another where they'll fit seamlessly.

Thank you everyone for following along, sorry for the delay.

Finally got my laptop to bind to the 3D printer via our wifi (simple once you know how but a bit obscure in Bambu's "instructions", ok let's be honest and say non-existent) and tried a test print in PLA for the portion of the conning tower above the flag deck.

Here I highlighted the viewing slits with a bit of paint. Sorry for poor focus; the hole to mount the range finder is nearly invisible.
I will print the "real" part in PETG.

You can see the conning tower behind "B" turret in this 3D render, except the conning tower is shown as round, as is the main funnel, which is not in agreement with my Norman Ough drawings.

These clinker-boats look very nice. I suppose, they will be shown covered?

Nils, I am posting my plans for a workboat and a lifeboat. Perhaps they will be useful to you.

    Thank you Nils!
I drew the drawing of the boat hull myself according to the reference data taken from the USSR GOST.
I don't have a 3D printer and I don't know how to draw drawings for it. But I have friends who helped me solve this problem according to my drawings of the boats.

    Super work Valeriy,
double-ender lifeboat and a workboat shells. Where did you take the hull shaping and the necessary software from for 3_D making?
Do you operate your own 3-D printer ?

    Lifeboats are custom-made using a 3D printer.

These models are ordered by owners of private collections. I have not yet interacted with museums, but I know that they tend to acquire simpler and cheaper models.

Splendid work as always, Valeriy.  I agree with Tony on his assessment of the small hooks, in fact I'm still wiping the drool from my chin. Nice jig for the prop which come out wonderful.

Nice detailed plans are helpful. I did notice that uniqueness about the Klondike’s deck. However, the Robert E Lee I built had the decks Cantilevered much further over the hull.

I still have to add those timbers supporting the deck past the hull.
    Cheers 🍻

John: I really like how you captured the lip on the bow where the hull meets the deck. . A very distinctive characteristic of the Klondike.. Nice job!!! Keep the pics coming.

The liquid mask was an experimental failure. It was probably doomed from the start as the mask instructions said not to leave it on too long, while I've read that primer (on metal castings) should dry for quite a long time - say 48 hours before the color coat. A bit of an incompatibility perhaps - when I carefully pulled off the mask, it also puled paint / primer that I needed to stay; more than touch up painting would cure! So that also  made me sonder about my original surface prep. I've 'unpainted' all the castings for the time being. So I'm using this to my advantage by reducing the exhaust pipe nubs on the castings so that brass tubing that will be used for the new exhaust pipes fit / have a nice attachment aid.

Once all the nubs have been reduced I'll go back to the painting. Before the second painting, I'm going to give vinegar etching a try.

Thanks!  It's sort - of scratch built.  I had to modify every one of the modules of the original hull that's on the web.

I appreciate DDP's attempts to help me accurize the hull, alas, despite several tries, I've not yet figured out how to loft a hull properly to the forms from hulls I've tried making.  So far I'm 0/5 on it.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong with them.
