I have put a small model into a fish tank before. it works. had to have a piece of heavy glass cut to go on the top to keep the dust out.

What parts to prime on revell 1961 kit
jerome replied to Frank Burroughs's topic in Plastic model kits
It will never hurt to clean all the parts in mild soapy water, dry them off thoroughly and prime everything. that way “all your bases are covered”. -
Excellent! Thank you both for the information.

Thank you all. I have copies of both books. They unfortunately do not delve into how everything was rigged in preparation for cutting. I’ll give Mystic a call.

Can anyone direct me to diagrams of how the blubber hook and such are rigged on a whaler? I am rigging a model of Charles W. Morgan which I did not build and haven’t been able to find much directly on this subject.

Hi Joshua, I’m located in mid coast Maine. On occasion I will travel to do repairs if the model is unusually large.

It always helps to know where you are located. im a contract ship model builder, but if your across the pond the cost just in shipping is prohibitive.

Where are you located?

replacement X-ACTO blade #30
jerome replied to Peanut6's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Peanut 6, I’m pretty sure I have both of these tools if your still looking for them. they are yours if you pay the postage to send them to you. I never use them. -
You could always just tie the ratlines first knot, glue it to the other shrouds and cut off the end later. at least it would cut down the amount of knot tying.

There is also a huge collection of ship models at SUNY Maritime college. and a very large collection at American Merchant Marine Museum @ Kings Point. Both located within a few miles of each other.

What a neat build. I have seen this kit and thought it would be the ultimate card stock kit. Lot of work though.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
