  1. If it’s really crappy line I would toss it. or perhaps a resale shop could find a use for it. some crafter might be able to use it.
  2. Such beautiful details Javalin for a radio controlled model. You are building a very fine ship model. its nice to to hear about the improvements on the actual ships. The 1958 built tankers I sailed aboard back in the 1980’s were adequate but a long ways from SOLAS compliance. open life boats. no inert gas system.
  3. That makes a very unique display. I like the simplicity of it too. Very clever use of tinting film.
  4. Years ago I bought one of these Logan picture frame sanders. I love it. virtually dust free. never melts plastic.
  5. I have put a small model into a fish tank before. it works. had to have a piece of heavy glass cut to go on the top to keep the dust out.
  6. It will never hurt to clean all the parts in mild soapy water, dry them off thoroughly and prime everything. that way “all your bases are covered”.
  7. Excellent! Thank you both for the information.
  8. Thank you all. I have copies of both books. They unfortunately do not delve into how everything was rigged in preparation for cutting. I’ll give Mystic a call.
  9. Can anyone direct me to diagrams of how the blubber hook and such are rigged on a whaler? I am rigging a model of Charles W. Morgan which I did not build and haven’t been able to find much directly on this subject.
  10. Hi Joshua, I’m located in mid coast Maine. On occasion I will travel to do repairs if the model is unusually large.
  11. It always helps to know where you are located. im a contract ship model builder, but if your across the pond the cost just in shipping is prohibitive.
  12. A good stain for your base is orange shellac thinned to suit with Alcohol. simple and easy to apply. Nice job on you model!
  13. Peanut 6, I’m pretty sure I have both of these tools if your still looking for them. they are yours if you pay the postage to send them to you. I never use them.
  14. Dan, She’s coming along nicely. sorry to hear about your Covid issues. the Academy’s ship model fleet will be awesome soon enough.
  15. You could always just tie the ratlines first knot, glue it to the other shrouds and cut off the end later. at least it would cut down the amount of knot tying.
  16. There is also a huge collection of ship models at SUNY Maritime college. and a very large collection at American Merchant Marine Museum @ Kings Point. Both located within a few miles of each other.
  17. What a neat build. I have seen this kit and thought it would be the ultimate card stock kit. Lot of work though.
