Hey Bob, Your build looks just fine to me, Keep at it . It looks as though you have the hard part over with. Everything you do right and do wrong. Which all of us have had our fair share of mistakes, is a lesson learned and will make you a better modeler on your next project. I'll be here looking forward to more of your build. So keep the updates coming. Happy Modeling, Marty G.

Very nice work Popeye, I admire the discipline to stay focused on this build, I have a tendancy to get sidetracked and start something else. Before you know it I have three projects going and none of them near complete. Your attention to detail is wonderful. Great Job. Happy Modeling, Marty G.

Fantastic model of your Dad's boat Piet. I was very glad to have been able to meet you and to see that fine model in person. It is nice to see the personal connection as the drive to build a masterpiece like that. Thank you for sharing your story with me. That is the type of History you can't get from a book. Happy Modeling. Marty G.

Great job Patrick, There is a trick I learned about striping and that is after you mask it off you paint the same color that is already there, that will seal the edges of your masking material, after it dries you paint the color you want on the stripe. the edges turn out to be really sharp. try to peel your masking off pulling to the sides and not straight up, You may try it on a piece of scrap first to try it out. I have had really good luck with that method. Can't wait to see future updates. Happy modeling, Marty G.

Wow those mockup sails surely make a awesome impression. I see where you guys were talking about colored pencils and shading panels in the sail, Have you thought about trying chalk pastels, You can grind it into a powder and use a paintbrush or one of your wife's makeup sponges to do the shading and then seal it with hairspray, Just a thought to ponder or experiment with. Happy modeling. Marty G.

If we learn from our mistakes, I must be pretty smart now.
michael20 replied to skipper1947's topic in Wood ship model kits
Great job Skipper. As we modelers go mistakes are bound to happen. I drilled a hole in the deck of my cutter trying to get the haws hole for the anchor rope to go through. I covered it up with a coil of rope so it wouldn't be visible. It's all in camouflage. I will say that there are so many nice features to your model that many, including myself would not have noticed what you call mistakes. Great model. Happy modeling. Marty G. P.S. Just have fun, that's what the hobby is all about. You don't have to make anyone else happy but yourself.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
