You could also take those babbet fishing weights and melt them to a blob on a piece of tile and cut out what you need.

Fantastic work Popeye, Now all you need is a few of those plastic barrels ready to be harpooned to that pesky man eating shark. Great job, I'll be looking foreward to seeing how this one turns out. Happy Modeling, Marty G.

Allenyed, Thanks, I wasn't sure. The neat things you learn about the way they did things is most interesting. Happy Modeling. Marty G. -

Didn't that white stuff have a lead base to keep the worms from eating the wood? Marty G. -

Hey Kevin, I see you have made great progress, Your bat looks great. Once you sand it up you will find that it will make most of your glue mistakes disappear. You can always use natural stain and it would highlight the grain and not change the color of your wood. Keep it up, it looks fantastic. Happy Modeling, Marty G.

Your little boat is coming along quite nicely Kevin. I was also a plastic modeler and I think the experience helped me start in the wood ship modeling but then again you always learn new things along the way. Keep it up, you are doing great, as with plastic modeling, the more you do, the more you learn, the better you become. Happy Modeling, Marty G.

Use pointed tweezers Kim, that will help you tremendously with the rigging. I also found another great tool to help with your rigging, I found it at a local beading shop when I went there with my wife, it's a thread burning tool so when you tie off your rigging and glue your knots you can burn off the excess line closer than cutting them off with scissors. I know we all have our own way of doing things and I thought it might help you a bit. Great looking model, keep it up. Happy Modeling Marty G.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
