Removing the frames from the boards was a bit tricky, laser not cut all the way through. After removal a quick sand and now a dry fit. Instructions have the bulkheads numbered but not on the actual pieces so it was a bit of a jigsaw getting the correct order.
I have the AOTS book to help along the way.

    Hi

Just saying hello.  Pretty new to building wooden stuff but have been doign plastic things for a while.  This sitting at home all day has given me plenty of time, I've wanted to have a go at a wooden ship for a while and thought it was a good time to start.

Started an 18th century longboat a few weeks ago and just finished it

Not the greatest picture but it serves.  Just about to start on my second boat which is a Lady Nelson

I started building this 32 gun frigate in about 1996 after being inspired by Charles De Clinton, totally scratch built from Welsh and Swiss pear, I have tried my best to build it as they would of in the day joint for joint each, frame made up of several parts, stepped scarph's on the the keel, Mr De Clinton asked to see the keel when it was completed but told me not to glue it, well I took it to him in pieces, he asked me to assemble it and to my horror he picked it up by the stem end, it held together as one, to receive praise from him was something that encouraged me a great deal. It is still not finished I only work on it when in the right frame of mind, the Coronavirus has given me plenty of time to continue, I have just completed making the stern gallery window frames from boxwood, took about an hour to make each frame,  7 in all with 6 panes in each. Will try to post some pictures in the near future

Thanks Chris happy to be the guinea pig on this. We will see how quick and what condition its in when it turns up
before judging them on the 56 pound. Have there been tracking numbers issued
It would be nice to know who will deliver over here, one particular mob here are schockers about doing a prompt delivery,
if not loosing it for weeks.
And that is only getting something from Melbourne 100k away. Thanks Chris

Chris: I hear you. Also self-employed and only getting some build time in because I took my first full week off in a few years. I tell people that self-employment means you can work whatever hours you want as long as it's all the time. Hopefully I can keep the momentum up and I hope you can find some time too. I've enjoyed watching your build and have learned a few things.

Howdy Rick The problem is I need to get back into it, too much work being self employed and running a small business that I am
trying to build up and change direction to a retail one, a mother in law that is by herself and needs help with yard work ect as
well as doing my own chores. The brain is just not in gear for sitting down and doing ship modelling.

Whew. I'm coming off of several months of long work hours, a bathroom remodel, and other house projects. I've got a little holiday time off and I'm hoping to regain some lost momentum on the build. I started with a good cleaning of my work area and the boat (which I foolishly left uncovered during the remodel....coated in dust!). I had last been working on deck furniture and had a decent binnacle and skylight. I've been looking back at a sketch I had made (and have repeatedly modified) of other adjustments I was thinking of making to the deck layout. The main ones are:

    1. A grating for the main hatchway
    2. Two scratch-built or kitbashed whaleboats, consistent with King's journals
    3. A kitbashed windlass that is a bit smaller than the one in the kit
    4. Slight repositioning of the forward hatch
    5. Slightly lower profile main companionway

I just need to pick one to start puttering with it. I might start with the companionway. I'm off to look at some gallery images for inspiration.

Trying to get my head back in the game by building the main companionway. I’m taking a cue from Rick and went for a low profile with a very subtle slope, consistent with King’s cutaway drawing. Instead of modifying the plywood pieces that came with the kit I just built up a scrap block of balsa and finished it out with walnut strip stock that I keep on hand in a couple of sizes. The faux hinges are the tips of some cannon port hinges I never used. They’re probably a bit large and I still might paint them black, but added some extra detail.

    Small update....
Work continues on the Fuselage.... I'm not too happy with it, there are no accurate measurements in the "Destructions" it's just go with the flow and try to get things lined up/square.

As stated before, there are many, many issues.... One of the se is the fragility of the components, Esp, the "Muntz" ones.
(Filed a bit of a groove tonight for the Instrument Cluster, it just fell to bits with the most gentle touch, anyway, rebuilt/fixed with CA/Epoxy.)
I think that this one has been languishing too long and over time, if not assembled, the parts degrade.

Haver completed the Control Column, Rudder Bar, Cockpit Floor and am reasonably happy with the Firewall and "Cockpit" Veneers.

I have also to fabricate some Lugs for the Landing Gear/Interplane Struts as the most forward Cockpit Frames were missing and I had to Fabricate these also.

So, we'll see how it goes....

    I'll post some photos tomorrow.

    Cheers....HOF.

    Rick,

The carronades look sharp. I'm consumed with the chaos of a bathroom remodel at the moment but hope to be back in the game with the boat in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned!

Carronades now fitted to carriages and installed. Purchased from Cornwall Model Boats https://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?WD=carronade&PN=RB-Model-Fittings-Carronade-20mm-RB01123.html#SID=1251 . They had to be amended slightly as the extension on the rear of the barrel just didn't seem right. So this was removed reducing the overall length to 20mm after re-fitting the button, much nearer the 17mm I was hoping for.

Loctite make a glue titled Power Flex. Has a black label (because of the rubber?) Per my source, it's a gel. So you'll get a little working time. I myself will be looking for some of this stuff after my current supply gets used up or solidifies.

Plastered the corners of the Firewall with Z-Poxy. Hopefully this will complete integrity of this rather  brittle component and the penetration's therein. 🙂
Already tidying up the Elevator/Tail Plane, more Z-Popxy Fillets....
(I may have to spray the Control surfaces Gunmetal/Silver, we'll see....)

Carl, I promise to post some photos later today, just for you Chap. 🙂

    Hi Chris, Et all,
Agree, Epoxy can be slippery and messy, not so nice to work with....

CA has it's uses, the late great Manstini called Super Glue "Stupid" Glue. (Ship Modelling Simplified.)

Anyway, work continues on the Elevator/s, not by any means finished this.
Aligning Ribs with the Tail plane and then clean up the Epoxy Fillets, I will no doubt need a touch up or two during this process.

With the Z-Poxy, the stuff goes solid, commercial Epoxy, (Araldite), seem to stay "Plastic" for days....
(At 3.4"C tonight, (OS temperature), it's taking a little more than 15 minutes to go off, plenty of time for fine adjustment. 🙂)

    Cheers....HOF.

    there all sorts.
Thanks Cog that looks like the one for me and i can get it in Aus from here    https://www.modelflight.com.au/bob-smith-industries-insta-cure-plus-gap-filling-cyanoacrylate-2-oz-glue.html
Thanks Canute yours is instant which i don't know if i can handle, instant types are what I have been using.
Hi Hof looking forward to seeing more of your work. Epoxy glues seem to be messy with me. I will give the BSI one a go.
First I need to make some time and do some modelling.
I did come across this video, I think it is CA with an accelerator, imagine the mess i could have with that stuff.
    Cheers Chris
