  1. I have never seen the contents of the Revell Off Shore Platform, but they fetch a smart price on Ebay. Will bet there is a ton of plastic in that model.
  2. Started putting this kit together today, lots and lots of cleanup of the parts is necessary to remove flash, ejector pins, etc. Remember, this is a very old tool and it shows it's age. It seems reasonable to me to assemble this model in sub assemblies, some large, then paint the basic colors and detail paint last. Tomorrow, I should get some photos of the major sub assemblies before painting. Here are a couple of photos of the contents of the kit.
  3. When Revell USA went out of business a few years ago, Atlantis bought a lot of their old tooling, this being one of them. We are lucky that someone took on these old molds. In the near future, Atlantis will be offering the big scale Turbo Prop Engine kit. As far as I know, that kit has not been released since Revell produced it as part of their History Makers series of kits. So yes, this is a fairly new release of a very old kit originally from Revell.
  4. Is your Indescrit a kit? Curious because I have an old Aeropiccola Xebec I have not started yet.
  5. Had to take care of a matter in a small city about 50 miles from home this week. While there, saw a Hobby Lobby nearby and had to take a look inside. This was my first ever visit to a Hobby Lobby store, and it was quite impressive. They even had a decent scale model section to my surprise. Downloaded a 40% off coupon on my phone then bought this repop of an old, old, Revell kit was many days gone by. The little booklet that comes inside the kit box describes John Glen's first orbit around the planet and has some interesting vintage 60's photos of that event. With a 40% discount, the kit was $17.99. A bargain at that price. I have seen photos of the finished model done by others and it's quite decent. A little clunky by today's model standards, but still a neat looking space model that will make you recall those days when we were younger. Will give this thing a go and see how it comes out.
  6. Love the Intruder. I'm in!
  7. Great subject Javlin. If it's not too much trouble, could you post a photo of the kit decal sheet?
  8. One of these days, I am going to start mine. Just looked at that lonely kit/box sitting on the shelf last night. Your build thread will play heavily into my "research". Thanks for being so thorough in describing how you accomplished all this beautiful work. It will surely help others.
  9. Seems so odd to see aircraft workshop manuals by Haynes. Until recently, never realized they did manuals for anything other than cars and trucks.
  10. The IMAI Winston Churchill is 1:75 scale. I saw an IMAI Cutty Sark on Ebay today, the asking price is $427.50 plus postage from Japan. Looks like a super beautiful kit.
  11. Awesome kit! I have the IMAI version of the Winston Churchill. I believe it's now produced by Woody Joe as the look very similar/identical maybe.
  12. You will likely give me inspiration to finish my Essex once you start this one. I have looked at my poor neglected Essex many times and thought I should finish her. Maybe now's the time.
  13. My older brother was my war hero when I grew up. Here, he was doing a tour in Korea, 1963. As you can see, he was always the ladies man and found himself a sweetheart in Korea. When he returned, the Army formed the 1st Cavalry Air Mobile and he was sent directly to Vietnam in 1965/66. It was hell and that's putting it mildly. Search and destroy was no joke.
  14. Talking to my friends who served in all three wars, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam, consensus was Korea was the worst from an infantry man's perspective. Conditions were atrocious, extreme in every way and the combat was hell.
  15. When I was a young man, I had the pleasure to be close friends with a couple of men who flew/crewed bombers in WW2. One was a tail gunner on B-17's in Europe. He was shot down twice, the first time being rescued by French and returned to service, the second time wound up in a German POW camp for the remainder of the war. The other fellow was our pastor who piloted a B-24, aslo in Europe. Very interesting men.
  16. I do believe you got hit with a swarm of love bugs, not lady bugs. At least that's what it looks like to me. Either way, thank god and the preacher they didn't swarm your boat and only danced on your test piece. 😄 I don't blame you brother, that would have made me cuss, too.
  17. They can do this because they have crushed any viable competition. Yes, I know there are other operating system possibilities out there, but the masses are not computer engineers.
  18. Outstanding work, one of the best I've ever seen. Hope to see more of your work in the future.
  19. There are some issues (again) with Microsoft automatic patch updates. It's a real pain in the rear. Seems like this happens all the time with Microsoft updates no matter what version.
