  1. Back again from a short search, here comes a bit more. The Oscar Huber, a big river tugboat, he is still alive, located in Duisburg as a museum ship https://www.google.at/search?q=raddampfer+oscar+huber&client=firefox-b&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj7gcmXlZbNAhWMIMAKHZ7-BY4QsAQIKA&biw=1272&bih=902#imgrc=_ And there was the "Le Rhone" an even large tugboat, she had a turbine instead of a usual steam engine, and side wheels, her general plan is on digipeer http://www.digipeer.de/index.php?id=648324079 I cant show the photos, I am not sure if they are copyrighted. Regards Gerhard
  2. Most of the austrian wheelers are gone, just the Schönbrunn is in use for public or for charter tours. http://www.oegeg.at/schifffahrt/ Switzerland has a lot more of this old ships still at the lakes, even the worldwide oldest existing ship, the RIGI is still alive but not floating. She is at restoration on front of the "Verkehrshaus" in Zürich, I build (beneath my others) a 1:50 scale model of her in her first appearance from 1848 https://www.verkehrshaus.ch/de/museum/schifffahrt/ds-rigi. She was a postship in her early days, used for goods and personal transport. The photos show the RIGI in her first appearance. I will try to find more about the european steamers but lots of infos were lost during WW2! Regards Gerhard
  3. Hi Bob Thank you for this good info! Saved it immiediatley for "later use", will not be easy to make Regards Gerhard
  4. Hi Bob Alan Bates`s book is nowhere to find, exept one example for over 1300 Euros, too expensive for a 64 page book. The valva mechanism will be the most delicate part of the engine to make. I hope it will work fine, and there will not be too much force needed to move the valves. As I believe, it will depend on the length of the levers, and where to set their pivot pionts. I plan not to need spring coils, the valves must be held down by the pressure of the delivered steam. Regards Gerhard
  5. Hi Pawel Did I write this before? Gettin` better with every look I risk, simply perfect craftmanship.......... Regards Gerhard
  6. Hi Bob (& all other interestd!) DeltaAPmech has his site at Google+, I hope the link works correct. He has built a complete river steamer to his engine, but had made no plans for the driving system. A lot of videos, I just had almost forgotten the name. https://plus.google.com/102528091741765377564/posts The report to his build is on HMEM http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/showthread.php?t=22191 Enjoy it! Regards, thank you all for dropping in! Gerhard
  7. And we are waiting for the next wonders of the world To be serios, nice job again! Regards Gerhard
  8. And very slowly............. Now that the system is known for me, there will come a lot of drawings to make, and then the machinery workings. I calculate with about two trials for every parts, maybe even more, until they are perfect! Less than that is not good enough for the Cairo! Regards Gerhard
  9. Hello everyone By searching for more infos to the engines I found again, what I believed to be lost, the videos from a guy named himself DealtaAPmech. He built an sternwheeler engine by himself, a beautiful piece of metal work. You`ll find more at his Google+ site, think I`ll go close with his Engine, but even smaller than that...... Regards Gerhard
  10. Hi David Thank you! And many thanks also to Glenn (ggrieco) who sent me a link to a very good book about this engines, I`ve downloaded it today page per page from HathiTrust because of its good infos. Took some hours to do this, but its worth every single minute! https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89071911150;view=1up;seq=1 And many thanks also to everyone for your interest Regards Gerhard
  11. Hi Bob I just can hope, it wil work fine. But before that I have all the planning work, there is still not one drawing done for the engine! Next time will be busy with my homeworks, maybe in the evenings I have some time for drawings. Regards Gerhard
  12. Hi Nils Thank you again, will be a long way to go............ But I`m willing! Regards Gerhard
  13. Hi Nils again It will be a full flow engine type, slowly I discover the secrets of the valve steering with the cams, not sure if I will use two or only one cam per cylinder. The original engine had two cams, so I will try to make it that way, if it is possible. The boilers will have all safety issues and will be collected with a feeding pump. The boilers without a pump will have only 110ccm of volume, so a feeding pump is necessary. Steam will be collected in a steam drum and goes from there through the engine to the pre-heater for the feeding water. A steam oiler will be included as well, gas will be regulated automatically by a pressure valve. The pressure gauge will be located under the steering house, a lot of work to make all that things, and to make them work properly! Regards Gerhard
  14. Hi Nils This will be my first life steam boat, I will have to learn that all. The engine should sound like an original one, the stroke will be 36mm and bore 12 mm, close to the original engine in measure. I wil try, to make even the boilers close to original in look and volume, the closer I can get the happier I am . For calculation of engine and boilers there was a good tool in the "Segelschiffmodellbau" forum, works good and gives good infos for the size of boilers fitting to the wanted engine. I could send that to you by PM, if you want it! Regards Gerhard
  15. Hi Mark Thank You! I`ve seen this thread before, but I would only need the drawings for the hull, not the whole books. They would only stand somewhere in the shelves, would be sorry for someone who wants to build the warrior. Regards Gerhard
  16. Hi Nils Dont worry (be happy ) It was a lot of frames to build, maybe I`ve made a bit too many. But I wanted as much as possible frames for the most "endangered" parts, the gas tank must have an extremley stable seat. The engine will have its own seat from solid wood, so there was no need for more frames. All in all I`ve made frames from 30 meters of 5 x 5 mm pine wood! And some stability parts from 5 x 10 mm pine, the keels included I used 6 meters from that! Regards Gerhard
  17. Hi Nils Thank you! Would be a bad idea, making cutouts into the hull for a floating model I will need this frames to make a real tough fit for the gas tank, and the bended planks are a bit hard to do exactly, when there are less frames too. This way I will get enough stability to the hull, and get the right bendings to the planks a the bow. At the stern are less bended planks to make, so there I set only every second frame from the original plans, in the mid sector are not so many frames to set. There will be the engine- and gastank "boxes" set in, so it will be all solid. I will continue in a few days (as I hope), all will be better to explain then...... Regards Gerhard
  18. Hi Carl I wont get injured as I hope! But renovation must go on, new floor is layed, new workbench is set, but there is much more to do, before I can use all my tools and machinery. The old bench had only 1,6 meters of length, the new has 2 meters, so there will be space for a good milling machine then. Without that machin I cannot build good steam engines, so it`s a must! Beneath the Cairo i`m thinking about building a Baby Bootlegger too, so busy days will come, and maybe some more posts..... Regards Gerhard
  19. Hi Phil Impressive start so far, waiting for much more to see! Are there any good plans for the Warrior to get? The hull seems to be very similar to the SMS Danzig, but even longer than her! Regards Gerhard
  20. Hi Frank Just fell in here, I`m amazed! Think i`ll stay in for a while................ Regards Gerhard
  21. Hi Denis Thank you! All frames are set now, the next days will be a break in building models for my home renovation. Made just two more pics from the state today, next steps will be the outside planking, before I can start with all the internal boxes for engine and tank room. Thank you all for your interest and nice likes again..... Best regards Gerhard
  22. Hi Denis Alot of work waiting for you, seems to be that! Hi John The only difference between men and boys is the price for toys Regards Gerhard
  23. Hi Nenad But keep in mind, the larger the scale, the more details have to be realized! You make a tremendous job here! Regards Gerhard
  24. Hi Ken This notes on the frames are a good thing not to forget what to do and where. Especially when there are so many almost identical frames this helps a lot. The race? I was a little disappointed from JPM`s early accident, maybe he had a bit of power overstering. Many cautions, , and a rookie winner who had earned it! Good entertainment, thankfully no one was harmed! I`m watching the whole season, like the Indy`s more than formula one! From Saturday to Sunday also the Nürburgring 24 houres race was on TV, with a 1 to 4 win for Mercedes, great race too! Regards Gerhard
