  2. Hello Paula and a warm welcome to MSW from the UK.
  3. Hello Guissepe and welcome to MSW. As others have said, it sounds like your model is Navy Board or Admiralty style so it does not come with masts/spars. Here is a thread discussing rigging etc of Confederacy which may help is you want to scratch build them: Also, may I suggest you use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page? If you search 'Confederacy' and select 'titles only' it will give you lots of threads covering other examples of the same model and some covering scratch-built models. Hope this helps, good luck! Regards, Bruce
  4. Hello Henrik, I am happy you are making progress but ... no pictures! Regards, Bruce
  5. This might fit in the conversation: The_Use_of_Copper_and_Lead_Sheathi.pdf
  6. Another 'what-could-go-wrong?' idea from 1940.
  7. ...once set fire to my left foot and had to stomp it out with my right foot. True story.
  8. From The American magazine, August 1920. Part of an article on productivity in the workforce. Please note: THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BELOW DO NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF THE VERY TIMID POSTER!!!!!! Any complaints, I will claim to have been hacked. And I was out of town.
  9. Thank you Eugen, that is a very nice find.
  10. All sorted. The belt is 457mm length, has a J profile and has 4x ribs . Therefore the industry-standardised name for that particular belt is a '457J4' belt which is a stock size for many dealers. I got three for £9.40 ish total including VAT and delivery from Kent Bearings, contact details below, but they are also available from other sources including Ebay. Kent Bearings had the best price by far and supplied the same belt that is being sold for £8+ each elsewhere. The saw runs and cuts better with the new belt. I suspect the belt on my machine was the original (I got the saw second hand) and had stretched as it was definitely beginning to slip under load. EDIT: belt may also be called 457PJ4 Hope this helps. 11. Correct. I suppose it would have helped if I had read post#5. 🤐
  12. Mark, have you tried searching 'g scale barrel' on Ebay? Quite a few hits.
  13. Update: I believe it is sorted, belts on order, will post results later this week when they are delivered. 🤞
  14. Keith, the belt I ordered was the wrong length and I must speak with them Monday to see what else is available. Hopefully there is a correct length belt off-the-shelf. The quality is good so 🤞. To avoid confusion I think it best to wait until this is sorted and then i'll post contact details and a part number for the belt. PM me if you want. Bruce
  15. Re the corner-gun or whatever it was called: I thought it was used operationally and wasn't very successful. As I understood it, the barrel was rifled at the breech end. The bend was oversize to allow the round to move around and (wait for it) the bend was smooth-bore on the inside and semi-grooved on the outside of the bend before being fully rifled again for the last straight bit. It must have been a joy to do quality control on that production line.
  16. Kevin, did either ship carry out official duties in WW1?
  17. Kevin, thanks for posting this video. I enjoyed watching your build log develop and now we can see the determined approach to researching the model that went on behind the scenes. I'm a sucker for hard-headed research and this qualifies.
  18. Update: I have found a source and ordered a belt. We'll see what arrives, will post results 🤞
  19. Popular Mechanics Shop Notes circa 1906 again. The last line is chilling.
  20. Hello Hermanito and welcome to MSW. I exchanged PM's with Jim in the last 24 hours. Jim is well known for first-class support so as Mark suggests two posts above a PM may help.
  21. I have spoken with Jim and am hoping someone knows a UK or EU source of belts for the Byrnes saw. It is a spare so no panic (yet). Thanks in advance, Bruce
  22. Oh yeah, I tried everything to make dangerous substances and asked Mother if the set was defective when I couldn't. Them was the days ...
