garyshipwright got a reaction from KentM in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Trussben - 1:48 - Swan-class sloop based on TFFM
Hi Toni. When you look at the other plan of Pegasus mast partners, the aft end goes all the way across the beam and the forward end goes what looks to me 95 percent across the forward beam. At least that's what I see. Maybe David or Greg will charm in and set me straight . I do have the deck plan of the Fly and was going to add a photo of that deck but the battery is dead so might be able to post one later. From what I can tell is they are all just a little different, which led's me to believe that how it was done probably had some to do with what ship yard it was built in. Gary

Hi Peter. Your work is looking outstanding but have a question. You mention that your waiting for some copper foil to put between the keel and false keel. Can you tell me where you found this bit of infomation. Don't think I have come across it. Thank you good sir and will be watching your build come to life. Gary

Well I have to say that I'm glad I paused and re-checked.  This morning after the 1mm strip that I put onto the port side had dried I checked every frame on each side for accuracy.

I found a high spot on the starboard side and also discovered that the port side was not completely 1mm incorrect.  In fact the clamp was slightly wavy 🥲

So I've spent today pulling both sides to their correct dimensions as thinking forward - if I don't do this now I'm going to have to make loads of alterations to the waterway to make it fit.  I'm sure it will still need fettling into place but nothing like it would have done had a not checked.

The results are great as I can actually see that the clamps run far straighter than they did and now I know that they are correct.

So after doing that I cut the dovetails into the two beams that I had made.

I then cut the receiving dovetails into the beams.  I cut these 2.5mm deep as apposed to the 2.4mm on the plans (Sorry druxey I'll try harder next time I promise 🤣)

The beams are now in place and the fit is really nice - even better they are bang on the money height wise with just a little left to sand out.

So now I can get on with the pump well as I now know its exact location.

I can't thank enough for the encouragement and making me re-think to get this right.

    Cheers Mark

Onto the stern sleepers - These are another really easy piece to make but very difficult to get them to sit correctly on the stern.  I lost the first set but improved on the second.  Here's the sleepers ready to go on.

And here they are all fitted which I managed to get quite a tight fit to the hull.  Also fitted are the beams for the small deck at the stern which will also have a hatch.  This deck is not horizontal with the keel but has a very gentle slope downwards.  They were installed in exactly the same way as the forward deck beams.

I'm going to make the pump well next but to ensure the correct placement I need to make a couple of the main beams first.  It's at this point when you realise what building in 1/24 scale is like as these beams are big pieces of wood.

Thanks for all of the encouragement - Mark

Hello Every one. I finally went back to work on Montagu after a long break due to work and a few health issues. I was building some plastic models but nothing like building and working on Montagu. Also have done some changes to the work shop and do believe that I finally have the ship yard just the way I like it. Other then a few larger tools and a new  drafting board hung from the ceiling not much more to do but get to work on Montagu. I did finally get around to making my hobby bench and not only was it a joy to build but is even more enjoyable to work on. Hope you enjoy the photos of Montagu. Also added a gantry to the building board that was taken from Eds idealy and book. should come in real handy. For the last couple of days I have been working on the port side channel wale. At first I did it in pear but didn't like the color of it against the frames and changed it to boxwood and looks a whole lot better. If you have any question's let me know, and glad to be back. Gary

Well, I've finished and placed the remaining eight 6 pounders on the quarter deck as well as the last eight 12 pounders on the gun deck. That completes chapter 10. Before I start chapter 11. I still have to go back and put on the gunport lids. I've been holding off on placing them until the last minute to lessen the chance of accidentally knocking them off. I can't wait any longer now.

I finished the last portion of the rail with the timber heads and the transom cap was worked on. It appears that I was a little negligent taking pictures. I'd like to blame it on the camera, but it was me. You can see the shaping of the curved portion of the cap rail partially completed. Chucks template was used to determine the heights of the stern frames with some minor sanding to get the heights right.

The top rail for the sides was completed and the fairleads added.

Now there are eight more cannon carriages to assemble for the six pounders.

Hi, I started the stern by dry fitting the transom, the whole thing didn't line up🤔🤨and I decided to throw it away and cut a new one. I did not cut any of the windows into the new version.
With the mk2 clamped to the stern, I marked where the windows go and cut 1.5mm inside the line
    it lines up better
a bit of tweaking here and there, plus the roundels and arch windows to cut out.
    I'm happier🙃
thanks for the likes and all.
    Cheers

I'm being able to find time to get back working on Winnie,  so a  small update is due, sanding the hull continues, I keep finding areas that need a better finish.

I have started to fit the wales, hopefully she will look better and more shipshape when these are finished and painted.
With hindsight I wish I'd ordered some of Vahur's lovely black hornbeam for the wales.
Thanks for your continued support everyone.
    Also for the likes.

The past two days work. Made two wing transoms one from one piece of cherry one from 2 pcs of beech. During the forming process I ended up just going too thin for it liking. Made another today thicker and also made the other transom pieces. The plan is to mill the keelson and rising wood and get the axial structure all cut and fit. Then move into the frames since I gave my lumber now.
