and here they are trimmed up and my little delicate knot tying fingers

I also added this detail to the forestay copied from my victory plan and as far as I know not used on bounty I just liked the look of it and felt it added something but on reflection may cut this back out

not sure so I will sleep on it

Beautiful work as always Steve. I'm a good way behind you and your build has become my number 1 point of reference. 

Unfortunately Constructo just say drill 2cm hole as per drawing. I think I'm going to slightly oversize the holes and shim the mast bases up when the stays are rigged. Long way off yet though. 

Lovely work Steve, you make it all look so easy. 

One question - did you drill out the hole for the masts at the correct angle or slightly oversize to be able to adjust them as you rig?

Kayseri is a nice place.  I visited a few years ago on my way back from Cappadocia and bought some lovely Sucuk. 

Great looking barrels, nice job.  Really like the chains for the deadeyes as it's given me an idea how to do mine.  My kit has just brass strip which is not authentic so I'll try making up some of my own.

Hi Jeff, just come across your log.  Brave man tackling Victory as a first build but all the very best.

I am taking on a Constructo Bounty as my first build and have found that I've needed to modify quite a lot of the kit or scratch build some parts.  My best friend is a book I bought by John MacKay on the Anatomy of a Ship - The Bounty which has put me right on many occasions.  He has also written one for the Victory and I strongly recommend that you try and get hold of one.

I need to go to Specsavers as the advert says in the UK!!  I think the reason why I thought the silicone would be useful was that it would have a bit of 'give' and allow the rope to grip a little better.  I'll definitely look a little closer next time.

Those coils look good and the idea of using hardened silicone sealer as a jig is excellent so I'll be adding that to my locker!!

Hi Everyone, been fairly busy over the last couple of days and completed (with a little bit of tidying up to do) the Wales and Bulwark Strakes.  The kit says to build up the strakes edge on edge, which is fine if the ship was going to be left as natural wood but as I'm painting it I decided to make it in one piece.  The Wales are also painted and I'd be interested in your opinions over the colour of the upper Wale as I've left it as natural wood colour and not matt black like the other two. Anyway here's the photo's.

Great idea to use the dummy mastheads, I'll be giving that a go.

Genius!!  Good luck with it and I too would be interested in following your log.

Hi Steve I'm away for a few days but I saw your post and I too have found Cornwall and it's a real Alladins Cave. What material is the cutter made from as it appears to be plastic. Do you clad it with planking to get a clinkered effect?

The blocks look real quality from Caldercraft so I think I'll be looking at them for future kits.

Wales and painting coming along nicely.  Big thanks to Anton T who suggested I prime/undercoat first before painting on the colours.  It's made all the difference.

Hi Steve, I've just been looking at your 'lump of wood' for the small boat as I got something similar with mine.  However. have you checked this log out   

Take a look at his construction method for his boats it's genius (but seriously difficult).  As I was only supplied one small boat with my kit I'm going to have a go at producing the larger of the two boats as per John McKay.

I think that I mentioned a little while ago that the gun carriages supplied by the kit were hopeless - not to scale and cheap and nasty.  So I decided to try and rescale from John McKays book and scratch build some, although they aren't perfect by any means I'm pretty happy with them.  The main issue for me is the gun colour.  I didn't think matt was right so I've used Smooth Hammerite.  When I get another kit I'll buy some brass tarnisher - notice I said when I get another kit!!  I'm loving this new hobby and it gets better and better.

She looks more like a ship now and I'm really pleased that I decided to paint her.  Now for the wales.
