How about starting with a 1,5x50mm sheet and cutting out the shape you need?  I'm half serious Don.

    On with some rigging.

I figured that stays should be pretty substantial so I rigged with some .035" rope.

but decided it looked way too heavy so I cut them off and redid them with some .025.

    Much more to my liking.

Lucky Break!!!  Was almost ready to drill a hole in the deck for the mast. Went to the plans to see if there was some measurement I could transfer. The plan had no hole where I had intended to drill. It was forward a full frame meaning the step glued to the keel was in the wrong place. So that had to be moved. I could still reach under the deck still but those big dowels used to hold the frames together kept me from getting fingers all the way to the step. I did get the step up with some hemo's .  Used them to reposition the step also. Sure enough on the keel where the step is supposed to sit there was a notch so placing it was pretty easy. Hate to think what might have happened if I had completely planked the deck before drilling that hole.

As best I can tell this mast is set straight up & down. No angle.

When the construction is firmly connected, it is the time for the fillers blocks. The blocks at the bow and stern are the main ones and it is mandatory to set them up. After some beveling is done, the spaces between the bulkheads at the bow and stern are to be filled with blocks of some soft wood… After this, the preciously sanding is required. The preciously beveling comes with this phase of development of the model…

As long as I still have easy access to the deck I added the anchor cable along with 2 stoppers on each side. The stoppers were built according to the description in Charles G. Davis ‘The Built-Up Ship Model’ consisting of an eye around a thimble (img 1) secured with ‘round seizing’ and with a ‘double wall with ends hitched’ as stopper knot (img 2) at the other end. Img 3 shows the finished stoppers. In img 4 the lanyards are attached (simulated splice). Imgs 5 – 7 show the anchor cable arrangement with the stoppers in place.

Wow, finally! The momentous occasion has arrived for me. I've finished my long boat and now I can install them and begin the masting and rigging. I have to admit making the knees was quite the adventure. I went thru several trials before I found a way to make them. I ended up taking a piece of 3/32 x 3/32 strip wood and filed the rounded edges then I used a straight razor and cut them to size.
I have my jolly boat hung from the davits so now I need to make the gripes and the fender!
I have a question for the group. What seizing was used for the long boat and were the rudder and oars seized to the long boat??

Thank you all for your kind comments and likes! Patrick, thank you for your comment, as a newbie to the craft it is highly appreciated!

I was trying to shape it in my DYI drill-lathe - think I just squeezed too tight and gave it that spiral fracture - fortunately I had plenty of material and could start over, with a lighter touch.

So, let me continue with this topic please. I am very sorry for letting you be waiting for such a long time...
Let's continue with Stilac ...As the beginning of this log, I would say that this is a model made for the intermediate skilled modellers. The main thing here is to master the round stern. This kind of the stern demands a special care. This is why this model is, if I may say, dedicated to it...
In the beginning there are the constituent parts of the keel and the posts ... Separated and then glued together...
After this, there is the models construction put together. The round bars, dowels, are the ''trademark'' of the MarisStella constructions... When the construction is put together and when the dowels are onto its place, the frames are to be put into right positions and the glue is to be applied with a brush to the points of the elements' connections...

I have the santisima trinidad kit on the shelf.  The plans seem comprehensive full scale with part numbers .  The instructions are in the form of a pictorial step-by-step (in colour)

and a 3 page English instruction keyed to the photos.

I've been remarkably slow in getting this launchway built.  I blame the weather.

The plans for this require a board with a set of timbers to create the incline.

Then the timber frame is built with additional keel supports every 2nd timber.  The ship will be held in place with a pair of brass rods inserted into the keel.

Not shown are the support timbers that will eventually (appear to) support the hull laterally.  They'y won't be added until the hull is ready to be permanently fixed to the stand.  I've opted not to embellish the stand to make it look like the ground around the launch way.

I'm not totally confident in the strength of this as a stand but if necessary I can add some additional support to make sure the timbers don't become unglued by stress.  Part of the problem with weak joints to date may have been that the shed where I assembled it first was not heated and perhaps the glue was too cool to set well.  I'll see how the regaled timbers survive some handling.

Home now and had a chance to review the plans. I think I'm all right. Guess I've been going more by the pictures in the manual than the plans. It's a little confusing as the stick in question is in some of the plan insets but not in others. I can see where you were coming from Don. P12 shows what you were describing, P11 shows how I did it.

Didn't sleep last nite so I was pretty tanked up on coffee myself this morning. Death Wish brand.

Need to work on a process for shaping those deck planks. Fortunately there is a deck plan and it's 1:1 so anything I make I can test first.

Good for you Don!  By the way are you working your way through the entire MarisStella catalog?  Are you going to do a build log for little Pasara?  I'd vote yes for one.

Don - the electric plank bender I had (really just a soldering iron with a special tip) came with a thick strip of wood that had various curves carved into one edge. It's what I eventually used (minus the iron) to bend those ribs. Having something on the back side of the stick while I applied heat & pressure to the other side kept the sticks from breaking. You could easily make something with the curve you are looking for.

You probably know what I'm talking about but if not I'll post a pic when I get home.

    Good luck!

Doug: I must miss planking because I started planking the Pasara yesterday.
Mike: Thanks Mike. I made a rough bending board yesterday and started experimenting using soaked planks and a heat gun, the kind that are used for stripping paint. I had to quit after a bit as the wooden dowels I was using to hold the plank in place were burning, so had to stop and make some out of aluminium on my lathe(hint hint). I will post my results when I get back at it

Doug, you won't have problems with it being strong enough. I made something similar for my Armed Virginia Sloop. It doesn't even have the brass support rods and it works perfectly. I'm going to build this one for my PdeN as well.

I knew there was another out there like me    looks like your trying to beat my record     planking looks good....the stern is always the tough spot.   the differentiation between the transom and the counter is visible.......you won't have a hard time shaping the contour.  very nice

Long absence and limited progress.  Tonight I finished the coppering.  Learned a bit about how I want to do it next time!  Nevertheless I like the overall look and I'm pleased to have done it.
