Lose internet for a few days and you are off in another direction making a bunch of little boats and trying to hang them like Christmas lights! I always thought of passenger ships as a bunch of portholes held together with thin strips of metal but I think your number of railings out number the portholes by a considerable measure!

That's right Denis, blame it on the Lou paints! Even though it could be possible true as some of those paints could be older than you are! But I personally have always had problems when using lacquer with any other paint. I have even had it react to the plastic sometimes! Give Pledge Future a try. Gives a super gloss finish and as it is an acrylic does not seem to react to plastic or other paints. Craig says that he has problems with running but I personally have never had an issue in the few times I have used it.

Nice work Dan I have used much the same method for rigging a number of RC models in past years and found it to be very effective.. The only difference is that I used These; https://www.amazon.com/American-Fishing-Wire-Diameter-100-Pieces/dp/B004VZKO4W/ref=asc_df_B004VZKO4W/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312154679201&hvpos=1o4&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12007297228370317583&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033347&hvtargid=pla-568637132129&psc=1 They come in very small sizes and when crimped down look very turnbuckle like. They can also easily be cut down in length and end up being even smaller.

But thy didn't have to make all the parts from scratch! I used to live withing a mile or so of the Reno,(Stead) airfield and every year we would get a couple of weeks of the Spitfires and Mustangs along with all the other assorted planes flying over the top of the house pretty much at all time of the day, either singly or in groups. Some people would even set chairs on their roofs and have parties. On a couple of years I even got lucky and was assigned to the races and had the time of my life! All while getting paid! The only short coming was that once I was offered a ride on the B-17 but I had to turn it down because I was on duty! That hurt!

You must not have filled out the proper paperwork! With all the 1/350 builds you have done and the quality of the finished works you are right at the top of your field as well. Quit being a slacker and get it submitted!!

I personally think that your skillful correction of the railings on the docking wings proves you are doing nothing less than master level work. Most times making a redo look as clean as it is the first time it was done is harder than the first time when you are working with a clean slate.

Hi Frankie I have been following your work on the replica Providence with considerable interest. In fact I sent you a PM regarding your work but it appears that you have not read it. I am at a stall on this build, as I am with pretty much everything but my interest is still there and I also find following what others are doing is adding to things I need to know.

That's not a happy situation. I am lucky as I have a small hobby shop not too far from my house where I can buy. I like going there because even though it's a small store, they have a large turn over of their CA glue and it always seems fairly fresh. I tend to buy the smaller bottles for the same reason unless I am doing something where I am expecting to use a larger amount.

Great looking build Craig. One can almost hear the wind whistling through the wing rigging. I do have a question though. Do you know what the device mounted on the upper wing just to the right of center line is? Looks like it possibly is a pitot tube, but I wanted to be certain if possible. I have never seen a pitot tube on a WWI aircraft.

My walker won because it was the only one with wheels, (At least on the front). I never made it past the refrigerator though! I know what you mean about curbs Steve. I'm doing them pretty well now but the first one was almost a disaster! They are a lot harder than they look. I almost got killed by by the floor in a restaurant yesterday. I took my wife and family out for a combo Mothers Day and Anniversary dinner. The floor on the restaurant started out with a kind of flagstone floor where the wheels would roll fine until they hit a crack and came to a sudden stop, making the walker want to tip forward unexpectedly and without warning. Then it switched to a hardwood floor that was so slick the walker would go sideways as easily as it would go forward! It was a big restaurant and I was glad when I was able to sit! By the way Steve, your refrigerator is empty. I think the docking wing railings look OK. If you look at them in the other pictures looking from overhead they look perfectly straight. Well maybe not. I looked at all the pictures again and it could be that the starboard side is a little off.

I had forgotten that the glue you are using has possibly sat around for a while waiting for you to get some time to work. If your weather has been on the warm side it could affect the glue like Greg. (It has been summer down in his neighborhood) To late to help your glue if that is the case but you might keep the new bottle in the refrigerator to make it last longer. I also keep a bottle of this kind of stuff around: https://www.amazon.com/Bob-Smith-151-Insta-Set-Accelerator/dp/B0000DD1QR/ref=asc_df_B0000DD1QR/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309816945299&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4073283092394412599&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033347&hvtargid=pla-569647234929&psc=1 I don't use it all of the time, but sometimes it makes all the difference.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
