OK I am up to date. The next log will be much better, I hope, as I'll write it as progress is made. Hopefully much more detail. So I am at this point now. I bought some nails from an online model store. They are nice but I wanted to find something a little smaller than the head size of them. I think they were 1.6 mm or so. Well I did. What I found were pins women, (and I'm sure a few menfolk), use for making lace. The head is 1.20 mm. I did the scale conversion and it comes out to 1.13 inches. Das ain't to bad!! So I ordered 2,800 of them. They are a bit long at 17 mm but they are working very well. The pins are steel then nickel plated. I used etching acid to remove, blacken the nickel. Experimenting with time in the acid showed me I could get different colors. From gray to black to an almost rust color. Perfect! I took 400 pin batches, the pins came in 400 piece lots and soaked them various minutes. I used 11mm spacing. I also made a little jig to help with the hole drilling. Worked out nicely. After drilling all the holes, (I counted 968 on one side), I coated the hull before starting the nailing. I wanted the color to be authentic and since the ship will actually go into the water for the funeral I went this route... I purchased a pint of Stockholm pine tar and a pint of boiled linseed oil. Man the stuff smells but in a good way, to me anyway. When I get home and get close to the work area it smells of pine tar. Just like a real shipyard! I mixed it 50/50 and coated the hull. I'll put a 2nd coat on after the nailing is complete. I'm about a 3rd of the way done with the other side. I am also going to nail the frames and mastfish so I'll have plenty.
    OK, up to date...

For the late 17th century, there is a wealth of detailed information in Richard Endsor's book The Restoration Warship.   There are drawings,  a scantling list from the 30 ship program, and more.  He did a huge amount of research and the amount of information is immense.

For more details on the deck planks, what size ship and which deck are you looking for?  For the gun deck as an example, a seventy from the 30 ships program had waterways 6.5" thick, 14.5" in breadth.  The rest of the gundeck plank to the hatchway was 4" thick.  Between bitts and main partners, 3" thick.   Hatchway plank was 2" thick.  There were two spikes in each beam and 2 treenails in each ledge.  The upper deck planking was reduced in thickness as were the decks above.

    Hope this helps a little.

Just got the masts set, and I am starting the rigging. Asking for an opinion on the halliards. Do you think the line is too narrow? The kit comes with a slightly thicker black line, but I have noticed most deadeye halliards are white or tan, so I am improvising.

    Hello mahjong25
Its looking pretty good so far , the planking on this boat is tricky. After you fare the hull u can use a mixture of the sawdust and a 50/50 water glue mix to help with gaps in planking ad resand . Make sure to get the char off the inside the hull it wont pay nice with your  finish.looking forward to seeing it progress

Before I started the masts and rigging I toted my Granado kit around the country camping. Everything fit into a large toolbox. I chose one that was more than 24" inside dimension since that was the length of all the wood pieces. The fittings I kept in a plastic Plano tackle box.  I worked on it from Florida to Montana to Prince Edward Island, Canada over several years.  However, once the masts went in it stayed in my workshop.  Too much danger of damage at that point.

Am in the process of finishing, very first thing read the instructions front to back until yout tired of looking at them.

The most frustrating thing was finishing one of the plans then 2 pages later you find out you should have completed an assembly on a prior page. The explanation of rigging on the last 2 pages of plans could be better, also when conducting the rigging you'll find out that numerous rings should have been already added.

Just read ahead study placement of hardware and you will see those areas it should have been added in an earlier plan.
I was not as ready for it . Made a lot of mistakes, was able to cover and hide most of them. Lost a lot of time redoing.

Very pleased with the way its turning out considering, but should have waited before tackling. I have this ego that pops up from time to time that ignores advice like your getting now  and boy do I pay for it sometimes.
Go slow, read ahead, review other builds, Gdales Vic iis a good one, no question is too stupid I asked a lot of them.

    Good Luck

Before I had a room to take over, I built on the kitchen table. I stored the model in a safe place (high shelf in den or one in our bedroom. My wood was in the box and tools in a tackle box. This worked well and served for most of my Bluenose build.
