Great job Steve!! I agree with Jess, the barrels look great. Isn't that the way of it? The littlest things turn out to be the biggest consumers of time. They were worth it though, nice and crisp. Sam

J thank you!! And thanks everybody for the likes and stopping in. Carl, so now your saying we ship modelers are inbred?!?!?!? Sir, I resemble that comment Yea, the one on the left needs help, its going on the scrap bin and the one between, I don't know how I will ever duplicate that.... It looks like I only will be rebuilding 2 of the 6. The others will be ok, they don't pass the macro test but look just fine to me when viewed from a normal distance. Without my glasses or WITH a big glass of malted barley they look AWSOME!!!! hahaha! Sam

Siggi, Nice work over there!! Another great build I have been missing. Auggie, I think one of the requirements for this hobby is believing that twice is never enough. Steve, the center window below is kind of what I was shooting for, the window on the left is the same as the one above. I can't see the framework of the window. Then of course is the bubble in the center window. Its barley BARELY visible from "normal" viewing distance as is the texture that is in the window. I filled that one oa bit too much, I think I can live with it as again its barely noticeable. Sam Edit - Ha!! Barley visible!!!! I am a gooder speller! Souper edgamacated!

Siggi, I have had that photo for a while, I down loaded it I believe, from this site: http://www.history.navy.mil/library/online/consitutiongundeck.htm. They have completly revamped their site and its not there now. However, it looks like there is now a vast compilation on the Constitutions history, now I am gonna have to spend a day there reading. Thanks!! I have also seen it here in the forums. Daffi had a post in either his Victory build log or in the gun and decking forums. I can't seem to find it now. Ill keep looking Sam

Steve, PCC might have something also. Don't work too hard. I don't know about you but I don't mind a couple of long days here and there. When it turns into week after week it gets old. Reality becomes, interesting when you're sleep deprived...... Sam

Steve, thanks for the kind words. I can't see the stiles, they're covered by the additions I added to the columns. Its minor in the grand scheme but I think it will forever bug me.The good news is the port side looks to fit much better so I will only have to re-do the starboard side. Woo Hoo! Ill just take the surname Mu instead of Mudd!! haha. I am staining the ga==badges right now so I can't get a picture, tonight perhaps. Sam

Carl, A view from the stern is going to take longer than I estimated. Work went crazy again and we just finished up another marathon session. More 18 hour days, I think I am single handedly funding the US government with all the extra taxes they have taken. I sat down this morning with the goal of installing my windows and maybe even getting the Badges installed this weekend. Murphy however had other ideas. It seems when I rebuilt the frames I didn't take accurate enough measumements on my width between columns. They fit just fine but the small additions I added to give some detail cover up too much of the frames. Looks like another round of framing windows, this time with fatter stiles. I am going to change my last name to Glasier, or maybe Mud.... It just fits in with our motto at work; "We Do It Better Cause We Do It Twice!" In my case its four or five times!!! I more or less placed the assembly where it will go to see if I was being overly fussy. Just gonna have to suck it up and redo. My cost per hour on this build is slowly going down, pretty soon it will be free!!!! Thats all for now, Sam

Steve, its been a long time since I could stop in for a proper visit. She is coming along great. I am a little late on the glass cutting topic but if your really interested in learning to do more than straight cuts on glass Glendale Community College has a stained glass/mosaic course. Claremont College may have something also and they are a bit closer to you. As another mentioned straight cuts are pretty easy with just a bit of practice. Just don't try to score your cut more than once. Sam

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
