  1. Minor progress, mixed PE, i.e. partly kit, partly stock. The searchlight has but one part from the kit ... the little plastic pillar it is mounted on ...
  2. did you p[ut it on all the coloured items? from this side it does look that way.
  3. Convincing an Admiral is never easy ... but yours is very understanding - at least, that's the impression I get from her. So did you order the Hood set or went for the simple selection, and being able to get yerself some other stuff on the side (like a PE tool )
  4. I always cut plywood with a saw, if I needt to do a "neat" job I'll make an incision first on the line to cut to avoid the splintering it does so easily
  5. It's very shiny, I wouldn't have expected that. I love what you achieve with a simple brush, very impressive!
  6. Denis, you do not need the hood set, to much PE for what you need If you want to add to the build, get some triple railing, 0.3mm 0.5mm and 1mm brass rod/tube, you could instead use Evergreen for those measures. You would want bollards, as those in the kit are a pain to cut, clean up, and actually use. Brass water tight doors, Bitish version, since I got loads of IJN I used those. Northstar has bridge furnishings, at 1/350 in resin. I ordered those too. The guns I got from shapeways. The mast I made from 0.5mm brassrod and 1mm brass tube. If you limit yourself to that, you'll be saving quite some money ... I have some PE from Eduard for Musashi, but am not thrilled about it, so beware RGL, you'll have to wait. Can't get the right contrast with the evening lighting. because of their colour. I'll have to try it with daylight, and hope that'll work Royal wedding ... no, nothing up North here ... probably not invited
  7. No I liked these better, when I look at the parts to make one, I knew before hand I can't get them as smooth as these. Furthermore, for me postage was good ... better than from the States. They are called 3D frosted print, not clear plastic. I ordered the torpedo tubes from them as well. I have a broken tube in the kit, how on earth that happened I wouldn't know. Ordered somewhere else 1/700 bollards, as all or most 1/350 available are to big, and those in the kit are impossible. Didn't know you are that old very devious mate
  8. Glad it wasn't more serious, Nils. Glad I can't see it, since it didn't happen Great recovery!!!
  9. Mr Laza, Have a look here and here you might find them closer to home if you search a bit. Most brass will have a somewhat roundish edge, you could try and file it slightly down to a sharp shape. Having said that, bending will always leave a round edge, you can get a straight sharp edge by soldering two pieces at e.g 90º The size in modelling, however, has it's limitations ... at least that's my experience as an amateur
  10. So far I've been lucky (nock wood) not much flying around, with total loss. Although, it will certainly happen one of these days, as parts to be used shrink further ... I didn't like the brass canvas option either, haven't fitted any yet. I am pondering on options, tissue paper, or shoji paper are the ones which remain for me. Have to do some testing ...
  11. I need someone to drag it around before launching it ... interested Sam ... you are herewith volunteered for the job Sounds nasty ... is it?
  12. those dolphins turned out better than I thought viewing the first few pictures. Nice stand, lovely display. You've created a marvelous ship, Dick ... awe inspiring
  13. Todays harvest ... (all brass/PE is not from this kit) I need to finish the grating for the small tall funnel. Haven't yet found something suitable for the larger one ...
  14. I think I'll be relocating soon. To dangerous overhead, with all those dangling folks! Not much done today ... Looking through my PE stack for useful items to replace plastic parts
  15. You mean the other 129 builds you still have to finish She still does!? mine just sighs, and continues with what she was doing ...
  16. Denis, I think not. First steps are quick, but now come the improvements, which will cost far more time because of it's size. Yesterday I did 9 vents, just regular parts of the kit, cutting cleaning, and mounting those took me the better part of an hour if not more! Consider the time needed to start fussing with PE, especially making parts from scratch, like RGL's funnel improvements ... you, on the other hand, can follow at a leisurely pace, look what we did, and decide if you want to do the changes we added or stick to the model
