That's beautiful!!! -
Mihai, You have been doing some wonderful work on the rigging. I LIKE it!!! Hope you get your camera soon, so you can make some better pictures. Though I'm glad you made these to show us your work.

Rudder looks good. I like the metal straps, although coppered, they still are in nice contrast to the coppering of the hull

Tony, My work is in software development. You could say that all of the references I can use are available as modern media (e-book/pdf/etc). Actually they are. However, I HATE TO READ A LOT FROM SCREEN. I'm plain and simple a paper person. Screen format is wrong, layout is wrong, colour is wrong, font is wrong (anything else I can think of ... no not just jet). Most modelers are not youngsters whom grew up with the new media. We are used to books. Besides: I love the feeling of a book in my hands. I love the feeling of turning a page. I love it becoming mine whilst reading it (the latter you will never feel with the modern media ...)

Håkan, That's some very careful, ingenuous clamping you are doing. I like the tie raps (only miss the duck tape ). No kiddin' it does look good.

First: Chuck well done, and thank you. It shouldn't have turned up in your build log, for which I do apologise. Second: I don't mind paying Seawatch Books, I'd rather pay them the price increased with duties, so the authors could get a little more. However, I do mind paying taxes and duties, for if I would go to the States and bring them back I wouldn't have to pay a penny!!! If I have them sent by mail my limit is €22 before taxes/duties are calculated, whilst playing personal transporter (fetch them myself) my limit is €430. That difference is a bit - if not very - strange/odd/weird/peculiar/queer (whatever). At least it confirms the incomprehensible logic of a Dutch civil servant's mind ...

Gary, Where is the fun in fotoetched sets, whilst you can make your own ... Besides, look at your signature: Problems are just challenges waiting for your solution.

Very impressive work you've done on her. Is that a home made lath/router ... I forgot to mark your log to follow, and just now remebered it.

Thought you would make them in the same way you did the other blocks. Although these look to be approximately 9 mm. A bit easier on the sheaves. Still very well done. With regards to the sheave's pin, maybe this pdf (http://www.ulvencompanies.com/documents/Skookum%20General%20Catalog_Rev%2001-10_lo%20res.pdf) will shead some light on it

You did a nice job on the rudder. The only problem you've got now, is to keep your greasy fingers off the coppered hull. That'll mean you'll have to work with gloves

Børge, I love your work on the Dragon. You've got me puzzled. What do you mean by solder with different melting points. I thought silversolder would have a single melting point, or does it depend on the quantity of silver (or another component) it contains ...

Russ, Thanks for the tip.

Russ, I noticed that - the filing. However, the brass rod is not completely straight, so I'll be using some fine sandpaper to. I don't have any chemical stain. That will have to come later, I'll be staining it with humbrol 'gun metal' paint this time.

David, Thanks for the praise and the advice.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
