  1. Yves, Impressive job on her so far. Has the stair in that last picture been glued to the deck/beam? If not, paint the sides of your paper black too. Or won't it be visible once the deck has been planked?
  2. Mihai, You have been doing some wonderful work on the rigging. I LIKE it!!! Hope you get your camera soon, so you can make some better pictures. Though I'm glad you made these to show us your work.
  3. Rudder looks good. I like the metal straps, although coppered, they still are in nice contrast to the coppering of the hull
  4. Joss, Books in the UK are at VAT 0%, always have been (I know as I started work in the largest book store in Holland). That doesn't mean there are no import duties to pay. I don't know the English customs regulations
  5. Tony, My work is in software development. You could say that all of the references I can use are available as modern media (e-book/pdf/etc). Actually they are. However, I HATE TO READ A LOT FROM SCREEN. I'm plain and simple a paper person. Screen format is wrong, layout is wrong, colour is wrong, font is wrong (anything else I can think of ... no not just jet). Most modelers are not youngsters whom grew up with the new media. We are used to books. Besides: I love the feeling of a book in my hands. I love the feeling of turning a page. I love it becoming mine whilst reading it (the latter you will never feel with the modern media ...)
  6. Håkan, That's some very careful, ingenuous clamping you are doing. I like the tie raps (only miss the duck tape ). No kiddin' it does look good.
  7. First: Chuck well done, and thank you. It shouldn't have turned up in your build log, for which I do apologise. Second: I don't mind paying Seawatch Books, I'd rather pay them the price increased with duties, so the authors could get a little more. However, I do mind paying taxes and duties, for if I would go to the States and bring them back I wouldn't have to pay a penny!!! If I have them sent by mail my limit is €22 before taxes/duties are calculated, whilst playing personal transporter (fetch them myself) my limit is €430. That difference is a bit - if not very - strange/odd/weird/peculiar/queer (whatever). At least it confirms the incomprehensible logic of a Dutch civil servant's mind ...
  8. Since Sjors picks up the cheque, I'll have one too. Aioli, with dill, and Augi, you can gimme a scotch with it, not those bubbles. Show us the moves Popeye!
  9. Gary, Where is the fun in fotoetched sets, whilst you can make your own ... Besides, look at your signature: Problems are just challenges waiting for your solution.
  10. Very impressive work you've done on her. Is that a home made lath/router ... I forgot to mark your log to follow, and just now remebered it.
  11. Thought you would make them in the same way you did the other blocks. Although these look to be approximately 9 mm. A bit easier on the sheaves. Still very well done. With regards to the sheave's pin, maybe this pdf (http://www.ulvencompanies.com/documents/Skookum%20General%20Catalog_Rev%2001-10_lo%20res.pdf) will shead some light on it
  12. You did a nice job on the rudder. The only problem you've got now, is to keep your greasy fingers off the coppered hull. That'll mean you'll have to work with gloves
  13. Børge, I love your work on the Dragon. You've got me puzzled. What do you mean by solder with different melting points. I thought silversolder would have a single melting point, or does it depend on the quantity of silver (or another component) it contains ...
  14. You don't need to like it to pay the check ... Just bring your checkbook ... oeps, forgot, we don't have no checkbooks no more. Ah, wel bring your creditcard
  15. Russ, I noticed that - the filing. However, the brass rod is not completely straight, so I'll be using some fine sandpaper to. I don't have any chemical stain. That will have to come later, I'll be staining it with humbrol 'gun metal' paint this time.
