  1. Welcome back! I consider myself a newer member compared to a lot of the members here, but I wouldn’t try and align to any way of logs and just do your own thing. By the sounds of it the way your backgrounds affect how you would do your log seem the best way of doing things. I’ll be interested in seeing your log as that was my first wood model I built.
  2. Welcome to the site! I personally would start smaller unless you have some experience. I’ve built a few smaller models in the last few years and that one looks like it’s tough! Best of luck on whatever you decide, but my advice is start small, invest less, and enjoy!
  3. 1972 Chevelle Malibu, I’ve had it for 20 years now and have restored it as a novice. 10 footer for sure, but I did put a 5-speed in it
  4. Welcome to the site from a fellow New Yorker. Sounds like an interesting project.
  5. She’s a beautiful ship! Can’t wait to see your progress! Welcome back ⛵️
  6. Welcome! Everyday is a great day to start the hobby!
  7. I have attached the cap rail (after 4 attempts that did not look good enough, even for my standards), as well as the cleats and eye bolts below. I went with some wooden cleats I had purchased from model Shipways last year instead of the metal ones supplied that were too big.
  8. Yes, i had a hole in my eardrum so the surgery was not too terrible, i was actually surprised how it really did effect me for the last few weeks! Thank you for the compliments, currently i have ordered more basswood so i can attempt my cap rail...i think i've tried 3 times already and not been pleased. I've also drilled for my main masts and my angle is close, but the dowels are super warped! Not sure how to fix that so i ordered a few new ones.
  9. I didn’t realize they made large kits either!
  10. I have finally reached a milestone. It took a surgery that kept me out of work for week to finally get me motivated but it is now complete. Wow, I hated it and loved it at the same time.
  11. Golden Oak I believe, fruit wood is also a nice stain (it’s hard not to get too much of a brown when you want a yellow)
  12. Welcome aboard! There is only one way to learn, best of luck!
  13. Welcome! Model expo has some nice beginner models and a great selection overall...best of luck!
  14. Welcome to the site! I’m in no way an expert or even a novice, but I have had best luck plank bending with the solder iron type plank bending (after soaking in water), as well as the travel iron. I used the crimping style once and never tried again. Best of luck! I have the same kit in my stash as it is a nice little ship!
