    Denis, thank you for your nice compliment, ... I just received the smallest bagfeet with 9,5 mm bowl OD, and 4 mm vent tube, am removing the clips and shall probably solder 20 of them tomorrow Nils

Steve, the learn curve sets in at an early stage, this evening I made a few more bowls, and am pleased how fast they can be done now, Am still looking for some with only 10 mm diam. (found some and ordered at Ebay already, hopefuly the turn out right) Pete, thanks very much for your words...

    Update making vents have been producing vents in different sizes these days, the pics show only 39 and there are 39 more to do (total 78) The time consuming part is to get the radial hole to size of a close fit around the tube for good soldering with a gas torch I`ve never used my Dremel (and different diameter grinding bits) so much before Nils

    Wonderful 12 1/2 footer Pete, this reminds me so well for sailing many years with my Cornish Cormorant dinghi day sailor, about the same size at the Baltic sea.... Nils

    Thanks Bob, I found these so called "bag feet" on a web site of an Italian source. The benefit was the elegant rounded rear side of the bowl, also giving a little more depth, so larger vent tubes could be used, than with ordinary flat reared bowels. I was initialy looking for "acorn nuts" in appropriate thread sizes, the ones with brazed on domes made from sheet, but was`nt able to find any at all (used to cut off the domes), that what I did for my "Heinrich Kayser" steamer Nils

    Hi Ed, right, I remember when member Lee posted his progress steps on his lovely Cutter "Alert" he gave me the tip to use a black cloth or black blanket as background for those full view pics, and I follow his advice now and then with good results. Your approach with the cut-aways on "Young America" is superb just like is.... Nils

    Hello Ed, love that model, the way you make the outcuts in decks deck-houses, and even one of the boats is only half planked. The last pic with the black hull, the golden ornamenting and the partial sheeting look great, Beautiful work, what a pleasure to look at. Nils

    Thank you for your compliment Albert, I chose the vent tubes acc. to the max possible tube diam. that can fit neatly and radial into the bowls for soldering Nils

    Build log part 40 (update, making the vents) starting with the various number of bowl vents to begin with..... Here bowels for the 3 smallest sizes with holes in them to solder the appropriate vent-tubes in. The bowls are made from steel sheet bag-feet buttons, after removing the bag- fastening clip devices.... Nils

    Figurines for use as 18th century scale 1:48 Naval soldiers on models of that period, some months ago I was considering the build of the British Naval cutter "Alert" of 1777 after Peter Goodwin`s book and plan. Looking for 1:48 scale deck soldiers I found these.... and would like to share the find with fellow builders here on MSW. http://scenearama.woodlandscenics.com/show/Item/SP4454/page/1 the kit comes with good looking, fully painted soldiers, 3 American and 2 British, in appropriate period coat of arms Nils

    Thanks Bob, it looks great, I use the same technique for my ships decks and it also worked well every time, even if the planks are only 0,8 mm thick there is enough "flesh" on them for sanding over prior to varishing...and the "caulking" remains visible... Nils

    Very nice work Bob, just a question : did you do "edge-caulking" of the side planks above the wales before laying these ? All looks very neat and crisp Nils
