  1. Patrick, new innovative ways of making a hull, interesting to follow wish you that all works out the way you planed it to be.... Nils
  2. Thank you for your compliment Albert, I chose the vent tubes acc. to the max possible tube diam. that can fit neatly and radial into the bowls for soldering Nils
  3. Hi Piet, yes sorry, I should have explained a bit better....... The pic now should be self explaining. The sample bag foot button in the middle still has the fastening device.. Nils
  4. Build log part 40 (update, making the vents) starting with the various number of bowl vents to begin with..... Here bowels for the 3 smallest sizes with holes in them to solder the appropriate vent-tubes in. The bowls are made from steel sheet bag-feet buttons, after removing the bag- fastening clip devices.... Nils
  5. Good work Jim, you`ve sure been busy and the results look beautiful.... Nils
  6. Congrats to the recent keellaying party Patrick, I`ll be watching "Shadow`s " ride, hope all is ready and well organized for the larger sister of "Majellan" wish you all the best with the new build Nils
  7. Figurines for use as 18th century scale 1:48 Naval soldiers on models of that period, some months ago I was considering the build of the British Naval cutter "Alert" of 1777 after Peter Goodwin`s book and plan. Looking for 1:48 scale deck soldiers I found these.... and would like to share the find with fellow builders here on MSW. http://scenearama.woodlandscenics.com/show/Item/SP4454/page/1 the kit comes with good looking, fully painted soldiers, 3 American and 2 British, in appropriate period coat of arms Nils
  8. Thanks Bob, it looks great, I use the same technique for my ships decks and it also worked well every time, even if the planks are only 0,8 mm thick there is enough "flesh" on them for sanding over prior to varishing...and the "caulking" remains visible... Nils
  9. Very nice work Bob, just a question : did you do "edge-caulking" of the side planks above the wales before laying these ? All looks very neat and crisp Nils
  10. Hello Peter, good to see the progress on your "America" nice coppering job, i like the pattern of those Amati plates, are they photoetched ? Nils
  11. Hi Keith, a beautiful build, from keellaying to present status, very nice handcraft work on hull and deck. Your metal work and brass milling is wonderful to see and also that winch is fantastic. A good idea using an old (toothwheel ? ) for the e-motor coolribs .. Nils
  12. Thanks Kevin, very interesting project and a good idea with displaing different stages of ussage. It could get a bit difficult to find suitable deck fittings in scale 1:70, but there I trust 1:72 would do as well, and provide some finds for ladders / Stairways I like to use this source http://www.hobby-lobby-modellbau.com/onlineshop/index.php/cat/c468_Niederg-nge.html Good luck and much fun with your build Nils
  13. Kevin, wish you good keellaying with this project. Are you aiming to build one of the three sections or the whole ship. I noticed that its a card model, so you will be facing thousands of pieces to be orgenized logistic wise....., quite an ambitious task... Nils
  14. Bob, the ladder looks perefect, a fine positioning fixture and a super soldering job !! Nils
  15. Bob, you`re doing a good job on the railings-soldering... Are you going to stick the stanchion foot-ends through the deck, or into those white borderline surroundings ? Nils
  16. nice work Stripehunter, slide hatch and doors look great, also choise of wood tones and deck... Nils
  17. Hello John, nice to see you back at "Francis Pritt" amidst the standing rigging lines. It`s a very authentic nice model with a well built hull, looks great !! Nils
  18. Thanks very much Denis, I`m waiting for an photo-etched set of brass benches in scale 1:144 from an Australian source, (for soldering together), that go along side of the promenade deck housings, before the upper boatsdeck is permanently fastened, due to access possibility. Have no idea how long the postway / customs shall take.... Nils
  19. Beautiful work Karl, those windows, pillarposts and the doors of the balcony are superb in make and wood tone, well done Nils
  20. Super work Ed, I enjoyed your making of rigging cleats as "scliced" from the profile-milled brass bar, Smart idea Thanks for sharing this ! Nils
  21. Super model Pawel, I love the precise wooden joinings, and hope that you won`nt have trouble with the iron nailheads some time later on, but even that can be a nice optic speciality to see. Well done !! Nils
  22. Hi Druxey, you`re absolutely right with 1860`s crinoline dresses, I had the same thoughts......, I`ll try and tune those a bit slimmer perhaps with Dremel or so... Nils
