Running rigging now completed!
New pics of finished rigging........
Other than tying the last rat line clove hitch, I can't think of a more satisfying point of celebration in a build.
This has been the most challenging rigging I've ever done, mostly due to the lack of clear plan sheets.
Thanks again to Bill Short for providing a lot of daylight with the material he passed on to me.

edmay reacted to Yambo in sharpening stones which are best for the price
I have much the same as Gaetan suggests but I have to admit I bought the diamond plate to keep the water stones flat. I use it as first stage for everything now!

Work continues.
This photo was supposed to be the last one in the previous update: making of the eyebolts and the chain attached to them.
Update #1
Next. Start building all the stairs that go down between decks, with their respective handrails and supports.
First step. File down all the mold joint marks and paint with Gunze Sangyo Mr. Surfacer 1000 as a primer.
I painted these pieces with a dark brown color.
They looked very dull, so I gave them a very light treatment with a lighter wood color paint using the dry brush technique.
Can you tell the difference?
Here they are all painted and dry brushed, ready to start assembly.
Update #2
Since my attempt at making the ship's boats in wood turned out to be a big failure, I decided to take the challenge to another level, and use the metal ones included in the kit, but make them look like they were made of wood, (or at least as close as possible)
So here is what I did.
First a coat of primer:
Then, paint them using the same ocher color I used on the hull
After the paint is well dried, I started applying sepia india ink with a small brush. Continue rubbing with the brush without adding more ink, until the ink starts to dry and starts leaving streak marks.
This is the final result.
I will stop working on the boats now, until the time when I need to put them in place. This was like a little break!
Thank you for visiting.
Best regards to all.

@Nick... thank you very much. Yes, this is a big model.
@Edwin. Thank you so much. I'm flattered, and I don't feel I deserve this much praise. I do what I can but I know I always make mistakes and I'm never fully satisfied with my work. I humbly appreciate it!
Best wishes.

edmay reacted to maggsl_01 in Fregatte Berlin by maggsl_01 - FINISHED - Corel - 1:40
Hello my friends
only two days gone - but time for another update. Well, as mentioned before its November, and the past few days it was a very grey very cold and very depressive weather around here. Owing to favourable circumstances I am in vacation :) So I can spend a lot (Admiral: "Too much") time in my shipyard with the Berlin. Due to this the built grows faster as I thought before.
Nothing is boring, nothing is impossible, everything goes good and satisfying. The decks are done so far - still have to plank the forecastle and the rest of the poop deck - but this I cant do before the inner planking is done.
I cannot understand why the instructions say you have to carve the planks into the decks plywood...this would NEVER give anything similar to a deck. I use 7/1mm maple - and its just marvellous. The wood is excellent quality and gives a perfect impression. I also planked the bulkhead underneath the forecastle what is not told in the instructions too. Its tricky to build this kit - but as said before in a very good way its satisfying.
I follow the instruction more or less strictly but I will modify or improve the built whenever I think its time to do so. I am convinced that other manufacturers offer excellent kits - but the more is pre-built the less you have the chance to modify. Corel's kits sure are no longer state-of-the-art - no lasercut parts etc. But this gives you the freedom to realize more of your personal perception.
Well enough for today... Next week I work in the night shift - some kind of vacation for me too. So I will make good progress the next few weeks.
As usual - some pics will show the progress so far.
Cheerio
Max

Hi Max,
The strips for planking, are they thin from ones that Corel supplies (2mm)?
If so, do you think to make additional working to ensure the right thickness of the gunports and the part of the board over the deck?
2 mm outside + 2 mm inside planking - 1mm sandpapering. Approx. 3 mm.
3mm x 40/1 (ratio)
12 cm on original. I don't know the right thickness, I had and have no idea but I had struggled on my own Berlin.
On Corel it's playing chess, thinking 5 moves ahead...

As always, thanks for all the support. Assembled the pumps. Admired how some others added the handles so I thought I'd give it a try. Made mine out of wood and used wire for the handles. Don't know if I should leave the handles on or not. I like the way it looks with them but they also take up a lot of deck room.
