  1. Great work... 👍 Keep up the advice on your posting. I’m following closely, I’ll be getting back to my CWM as soon as I finish the Viking Ship. CWM got a bit sideline while I worked on the Viking. But that’s a good thing, it allows you get ahead of me. 😎
  2. Started working on the sail this week. Hand stitching the rope. I have found Fray Check to be a great product for managing seams. Also Fabric Stiffeners are very useful. These products can be found at your local JoAnn Fabric Store. Once we get out of Corona Lock Down. Let dry overnight. OK, on to 30 oars, shields and oarsmen. more latter...
  3. Welcome aboard, you will find us a very supportive group. I have been here less than a year and very much enjoy seeing others progress unfold a step at a time. I have a Bluenose Schooner from Blue Jacket waiting in storage as I complete my current builds. I am looking forward to following your progress on this beautiful schooner.
  4. Thanks for the tip, I am trying to make this circa 800. The kit was not accurate and did not include any anchor. I have seen the anchor you are talking about in my research, I’ll have to include it on the deck. Thanks.
  5. Two steps backwards three steps forward, progress. Reworked the hull, again. Installed top ribs and re- planked the sides of the hull. Starting to accumulate a lot of wood scraps as I wing this kit/Scratch build. Finished tie-downs for Mast-Fish. Placed outer strake. This will be just above oar holes and supports the shields. Started the top rail... More latter, Rain storms here in Maine today. Stay in and stay dry, I hope everyone had a great Easter Sunday. This is certainly one to remember.
  6. Knees installed... All those tiny tiny little knees. Two pieces glued into place and then carved to give it that hand hewn look. 😎 More latter...
  7. Progress... I have cut down the sides of the hull and placed the beams. I carved the mast-fish today and developed a process to build the top-ribs and knees that support the upper stakes. Here is a close up of my knees and top-ribs. I have been working from the book Viking Longship by Keith Durham. The book is full of wonderful photos from the University Museum of Cultural Heritage, University of Oslo, Norway 🇳🇴 The research on these ships is half the fun. 👍 Latter...
  8. Found some great reference material on the Gokstad Viking Ship. Drawing will be helpful as I work on the remainder of this build. Latter...
  9. Wow! This scratch building is not easy. I got to say this ship is looking hand hewn. You would think I hacked at this with an ax. LOL 😆 NEED to find examples of interior framing. I am open to any suggestions. latter...
  10. second set of walls assembled And set up... Now for the roofing Ready for painting Aft House completed... I think it is time take a break from the CWM and go work on my Viking Ship build. Later... 😎
  11. Now for the building of the Aft House. Laying down the base plates. laying out my first set of walls complete with wood trim. erecting the walls... very challenging to get all of these corners straight.
  12. Thanks for your comments, this is a very satisfying model build. I picked this for my first wood build, because of its complexity. The challenges make the work very satisfying. Good Luck in your search for the MS kit.
  13. The Try Works is up next. I printed out HO scale bricks on card stock, cut them out and placed them using CA Glue. Built the base from wood and wrapped the sides and back with wood planks. Painted the Try Works out and placed it with the workbench.
