Thank you @allanyed for this, that's what I need. And thanks @aliluke, yes those cannons do have to go, I am going to replace them for sure. Not sure about the swivel guns, we will see. Working on getting a stove as well. Today I finished the planking on both sides of the ship. The next step was the stern counter pattern, followed by whalers and paint. Now I got to let the paint dry , then on to the second layer of planks. . I have more work to do on the stern so that the planks fit the keel, another rabbet maybe, I will fix it lol. Thanks so much for looking in, having a great time, I know rigging is coming up, but I like ratlines lol.

Tips to start building model ships again
Knocklouder replied to Adri's topic in Wood ship model kits
And a plank bender, and did somebody say clamps, lol -
Today was a great day 😌, slow start but I am retired lol. I won't tell you which side of noon I arose lol but went to work right away. Lol. I think my hatch coaming need a little work , I think the bevel at each end could be sanded a bit more, we will see. So I planked the first plakes on the star board side. And would you not know it is my best first planking so far and it will be covered by copper. Lol. But it a good smooth base for second planks. The keel and the planks are pretty darn close to being flush with each other. I didn't do a rabbet at the start, but I did chisel out about six inches at the stern so they sit flush, looks good to me. I have six planks on the port side, they look scary but after sanding they will be OK. Hopefully I can finish the frist planking tomorrow, and start the second layer of planks as well. Having so much fun with this kit. I was afraid to start it, I didn't want to ruin it. As I get into this build it just coming together nicely. There are a lot of things I have to decide , on how to make her look, but I got some time, the coppering is going to slow me down till I get the hang of it , we'll see. If not for MSW I would be lost, it is so great that I can look at other logs and try to do my best. I still need to be careful I tend to go full steam and not like what I see and , do it over again, lol , but it's my hobby, lol. Onward to the planking Bob M.

Looks like a great start, I remember planking my first hull nervous was an under statement lol. I soon learnt the water and heat from a plank bender made the world of difference. Everyone has there own way of planking, but there is lots of info in the databased on planking Good luck on your journey, Bob M.

2023 Donations drive
Knocklouder replied to James H's topic in How to use the MSW forum - **NO MODELING CONTENT**
Recently I renewed my membership to the NRG and MSW. I join MSW two years ago and the NRG last year, so when it came time for renewal a couple of weeks ago I up my donation to the next level. For me I felt, it is a small price for all that I have received. Glad to help out in a small way. Thank you everyone -

Well today I have managed to get the hatch coaming completed. They don't look to bad, IMHO, lol. I even put a little bevel to them, they look like they could shed water lol. On to the planking, first and seconded, then the coppering , lots to do . Thanks everyone for the likes and comments. Bob M.

Today I made my first capstan, good thing it is under the upper deck lol. I painted the Main pump cistern black, but I might change that. I have to start thinking of how I want the ship to look, what color goes where, and where to leave natural. So on to planking got lots of that to do. The gun strips went on well enough. Lots of clamps but was really easy to do for some reason. It all just fit where it was supposed to, a little sanding but not that much. I proceeded to put the first plank on as well it looks good, a bit of sanding filling, it will be good to go. So I fitted the upper decks and played with my only cannon, realizing that there is a lot of rigging and little eye bolts to do on these cannons. I am going planking lol. For some reason I want to get to the coppering, I guess it is because I have never done copper before. I believe that I will start making the grates, going to do them, or try to do them like @Blue Ensign, they look amazing. Well that is it for today, I am really glad the gun patterns went on well. Talk later Bob M.

Looks good Bryan, one more challenging plank too go, lol. I remember plank ##11 and 12, they required every clamp I had, bar clamps, spring clamps, c clamps, and clamps that I don't know the name of. But the good news is that planks #13,14 and 15 are easier, a bit lol. She going to be awesome,

Change of course. I finished the cannon carriages and I am awaiting the new scale correct cannons. So I made a jig up and glued the carriages together, this is my jig, it worked for me lol. Here is how I paint the wheels all at once, lined them up on a wire rod and sprayed a couple of coats of flat black. I was going to airbrush the carriages but decidd it was going to be faster just to hand paint them. Today I was going to do the gun strips, but changed course and decided to follow the instructions , lol. So it's on to page two lol. My first capstan and main pump cistern and two bits. That's the fun stuff, things I never tried before . Ok that's it for today, happy modeling Bob M.

135241 lol in my sleep, the deck planking went well, I am 98% happy with it, I used a dry erase marker, the kind they use on white boards. I usually use a sharpie marker but thought I give this a go. At first I like it, if you got some on the front of the plank it was guickly sanded of, so away I went. I used a shelac sealer and it started to bleed a bit. Dang. I sanded it all of and stared drilling the nail holes. After that a good sanding followed by a guick coat of flat clear coat. So this is what it looks like, once it's all done you won't see much floor. And were the floor show, it looks good, most of the bleed happen under the aft deck so you won't see it. So I am going to make up the cannon carriages then tomorrow I am going to put the gun strips on, hopefully lol. Thank you everyone for the likes and comments, I am having so much fun putting my ships together, they may not be the best built models but they look good to me, and it's all about having FUN. Lol Bob M.

The other day I went to the wood shed and cut up some wood for in between the bulk heads. I used my table saw to cut up some right width pieces, then used my scroll saw to get them closer to want I wanted. Even so there was an awful amount of sanding, but I think I did all right. I ran a plank over it and it seems good to go. Then I plaked the stair wells on the lower deck and blacked out were the grate goes. On to the gun deck. It went on really easy, time to start decking. I only have done a two but patterns on all my other ships. This calls for a 5 butt patten. I was lost, had to give a shout out to @Landlubber Mike to ask for help. He directed me to a thread and the light switch went on. Thank you so much Mike. Peice of cake, 1,3,5,2,4 That all all I got to rember lol. I drew it out on the deck ,adjusting for errors and making sure I started right I started Then I made up a cannon carriage, painted it and put the kit supplied cannon on. Way to big. So I am getting new one's. As far as the carriage goes I think they will be OK, if I can put them together with out breaking them, they are very tiny. So This is how far I got on the deck, I gave it a quick coat of shellac, it will look better when it's all done I think I will do as much decking as I can, then put the gunstrips on, and move on to the frist planking before I do any more to the deck. We will see. That it for now. Bob M.

Wow your over half done the planks. If it's coming away from the strong back, that means it's not sticking to it, which is a good sign I think . Keep the rope handy lol. A couple more planks , then they get tricky, lol

This is Pegasus all put away in the top 3 shelfs , all the planks are on the rack behind the super D cup, ready for planking lol. Yes most diffinly going to order new cannons but what size is right. This is a cannon from the kit on a carriage, it does look to big, the bottom one is from an Astrolabe model that I have but can't tell you what size it is. More research lol. Well I glued the bulk heads and the plank termination patterns on the bow, it went together well. Now just going to let it dry over night , then bevel the bulk heads. After all the sanding is done I will attach the keel parts, then move on to planking the main deck. If anyone could tell me what size of cannons, I should order that would be great. Thanks PS. Don't forget to donate to MSW.
